Fellow DJ wants to play my mix?!?

Here’s my two cents from an artistic standpoint and business standpoint. Keep in mind I’ve only started dj’ing for a few months so hopefully more experienced djs will chime in here but I will say that I’ve recently been doing the Mike Monday course where we are pushed to become songwriting machines so that no one tune is too “precious” It’s given me a new perspective on songwriting in general as in the past, each song was my baby (which is still true). So my point is, from an artistic standpoint, HELL NO. That’s your art! But, if you were ONLY doing it for artistic purposes, you should be happy just having it for yourself and chillin on the beach or some rock with a view. If you want to earn any money from it/promotion, then it’s business and to my limited research, ghostwriting is very common in the current EDM world. So you could look at it as a potential win/win situation where even if he did claim it as his mix, would you now have access to “his contacts/additional paying gigs from those contacts/etc” Also, I mention Mike Monday because if you’re constantly making mixes on a daily basis, A HABIT, then this one mix wouldn’t be as precious as if it was your ONLY mix.

Lastly, only because I’m a songwriter, but when you’re playing your mix, are you ACTIVELY SAYING “hey, this song was actively written by so and so songwriter/drums played by so and so drummer/etc” I’m guessing probably not so one could make the argument what you’re scared of this guy doing is almost what you’re doing. so instead of looking at it as a negative, try to focus on the positive that ultimately, it’s to help people have a good time and enjoy life for a few hours and worst case scenario, this guy will get cred for a great mix which YOU WILL GET MORE CONTACTS AND BUSINESS, and in the long run, this guy will not be able to deliver whereas you will. If he’s the type of guy to BS you, chances are he’ll BS others so as long as you’re benefiting in some way, focus on the positive.

If your getting a lot of gigs then why bother… But if your not getting any then any promotion is good promotion. In my opinion he not going to Nick your mix… Cau if he’s asked to do another mix like it and can’t then he is going to look like a clown and if he does do another mix. Don’t have that attitude that that mix is the holy grail… Next mix you do will be better and in a month there old tunes anyways.

Bro, if you dont want him to have your mix… he can have mine, they are all up for free download LOL…
Isnt that the point of Dj’ing to spread the love of music, if you wouldnt want somebody to play something you have created, then why create it ?

Well considering that he could’ve just do it without asking you, why not give it a go? It can’t turn that bad for you anyway. I think it can only do you good.

@DJ Vintage – wouldn’t that be a huge dick move? I mean – yeah you can use it – here you go – and in the middle – boom – DJ Sosdijnviwsdjf. I someone does that to me I wouldn’t ever play it, wouldn’t ever help that guy in anyway again, and will probably remake it on my own with my own touches here and there.

@Daniel not really a d*** move, i mean if you a DJ yourself why in the world you want to play other DJ’s mixes? I mean you can make your own mixes?

HImy names Allan.i read your post and in my opinion it sounds like he may want to use your mix as his set ,or at least part of it.Another thing you could do if you let him play your mix to the croud ,make sure he tells the crowd the tunes they are bouncing to are yours.i just started out to.Got myself an Numark NS7,11 im in love with some electronics as it is truly amazing.i had never used all this up to date digital software before. infact the last time i mixed with my own set was back in the early nineties on a pair of techniques twelve tens.the good thing with the Numark is the turntable with real vinyl and slipmats so take it from me they feel like you are using turntables.There direct drive with adjustable torque settings to get that just right weight feeling brillianti highly recommend the Numark.well thats enough from me,hope to hear from you.
