    I am Completely ‘Alone’ as a DJ; in the sense that ‘apart’ from this Forum; I have had No Contact with any other DJ for probably 7 years or more; other than Playing Out Live (which I am Unable to do at the moment); it is a Very Lonely Occupation; just as Writing was before I started DJ’ing; I can’t give you any ‘Pointers’ as to How you become Less Alone; other than reading the DDJT Articles about Networking;
    On the other hand; to be ‘Alone’ with your ‘Art’ can also be a Fabulous thing if you wish to Concentrate and Develop your ‘Own Style’ and ‘Techniques’; Collaborating or having a DJ Partnership with another person can be an amazing thing – look at Orbital/The Chemical Brothers/Underworld – but it can also be Non-Complimentary; in the sense that (at times) one or other person can become More Dominant and so your ‘Ideas’ are not ‘Heard’;

    Thank you Ms. Emma (for everything you said and for sharing your story)

    Now relative to the posts:

    i am feelling two kinds of loneliness… Physicaly (related to music )(LMFAO) and psycological…

    Physcaly: about producing, because i would learn from someone more experienced… and with loneliness i mean not having someone to help me out… but that doesnt worry me very much.

    Psicological: about producing and about djing… that concerns the “getting feedback” thing… everybody (when learning or not and even if they dont admit it need other people to tell them what thay think, the world ,in my side of things, relies pretty much on peoples oppinion. just look at lady gaga… if people didnt think her songs are great we wouldnt have never heard of her…

    (just in case you guys and girls are thinking i am a GaGa fan you arent wrong or either right, i consider myself an open minded person and i can listen to everithing between Beethove or Bach to Marco Bailey or Frank Kvitta)…

    I don’t have formal music training, but I do know how to play the guitar by the chords, but not by notes. You see, EDM is not really a big hit in our country as we are a predominantly rock and pop music country. Thanks to D. Guetta and company, EDM is now slowly growing by the bit.

    I must admit, it really gets quite lonely at times. But DDJT and the forums is keeping me company quite well 😀

    Thats for sure bro… many of you are just completing my original post/thread…

    and your friends might be curious about djing but they just dont share the the same passion as i assume you do have about EDM… that is my case… maybe we all think this secretly to “ourselves” but i think i am the “ultimate music freak” LMFAO

    Ah well for me, I was in a band as a rhythm guitar and lead vocals sometime back. Of course, when you’re in a band you don’t feel alone as you have bandmates to chat with and to share your craft, your passion, your art. But in DJing, I figure that this is more like a solo act.

    I have just been introduced to EDM like what, two years ago? I am not sure when but it kind of kicked off when I attended a big dance party with trance producer Ronski speed as a DJ. I got inspired, then I found myself looking for DJ gear and ways how to learn this craft. I was just toying around with my then cracked version of VDJ(5.0 I think) years ago. And since I knew how VDJ kind of works, I actually started getting serious about this just this May after I got my first real controller, a Numark Mixtrack Pro which I am lovin’, and a VDJ Pro Full 7.0 which is officially purchased.

    But wow, we are in the same situation. It’d be great if we could have a mentor or someone, a person that we can speak with, who knows about DJing, give us some feedbacks on how we can improve, teach us some techniques. But we don’t have mentors, so we would just rely on ourselves, youtube, research, and people on these kinds of forums to help us. They may not be our mentors directly, but at least they could give us inspiration and maybe even some tips and tricks to improve on our mixes. Here at the forums, some people do actually share their DJ mixsets and ask for feedback from other members.

    The difference is that people, meaning the general crowd does appreciate if we could beatmatch properly, but may not be too critical. Whereas in this community, will give you constructive criticism because we as DJs and aspiring DJs, share the same passion.

    thanks… you taught me somethin… ayt 😀

    well you can call me producer… but dont enfathise (is that how it is pronounced?) on the PRO part of the word… xD

    im triyng to learn to produce… starting of with the basics…

    i am currently using FL Studio 9 XXL Producer Edition…. but also trying to get the basics on cubase 5… xD

    maybe i should focus on only one… but im currently still trying to dicide wich one suits me…

    i guess you just have to do the same…

    there is also Ableton and Propellerhead Reason… but in my oppinion you should start off with FL Studio.. it is simple and clean…. and doesnt scare you with a Pro appearence like Cubase…

    also if you wanto to ear my song here it is LINK –> http://digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/check-out-my-production-on-soundcloud-need-some-serious-feedback.248/#post-1376

    give some feedback please… xD

    I’m currently at work and our firewall blocks streaming media so I’ll listen to it when I get home. Is FL studio free? Or if not, is there a sample demo pack. I’ve heard of some like garageband for the mac, Acid Pro where they have pre installed beats then what you ought to do is mix them by layers, am I correct?

    i dont know any of the program you mentioned… but on FL Studio it work by patterns and by a thing called song were you put the patterns so you make the song… in the pattern you just put sounds and synthsizers to make sounds… like kicks snares and hats… that is pretty much the basics for me…:(

    FL STUDIO isn’t free… but you can get a cracked copy… like those that TEAM AiR do… but if you tend to get serious and if you like it (i must say this) you should buy it… its important to support people that work on those kind of programs…

    the sounds for those kind of programs (musical production) work on basicly three or 4 ways…
    Sample Packs – one shots (which you can download free)
    Sample Packs – loops (i dont like these ones especially the beat loops)
    VST and all kinds of plugins and virtual sinthesizers – (you can get them legally free too)
    Old Fashione and complicated analogue sinthesizers a intruments recordings ( i dont know much about these ones as obviously i dont use these technique yet and never tried)

    That is pretty much all for me…

    PS: SetMix already posted on the forum… 😉

    I think you need mentors, but the beauty of online communities is that you can do that easily – give it time. Remember there are private conversations available to use and we all have profile pages with status updates on here to take stuff away from the main forums if you want to chat in depth.

    But also, creativity is difficult, it is lonely, and nobody is ever going to tell you you’re now officially a “producer” or a “DJ” – nobody will pat you on the back and say it’s all alright! It takes braveness to create stuff out of nothing. I actually wrote an article about it for New York’s Dubspot School recently – 5 Tips for Getting Things Done and Self Motivation for Artists, Producers & DJ’s

    @Phil yep, right on the money. Creativity is really difficult as you need experimentation along with it, and it doesn’t come right off the bat. If writers and songwriters do have a “Writer’s Block” then Producers and DJs, and music artists as well must also have a “Musician’s Block”
