I love to do this. Do not go for the obvious song, but for the hidden treasure is one of the nicest things a DJ can do and many people will love you for it.

No need to be scared as 90% of the time it will work out just fine and if you empty the dance floor just have one real banger ready to fill it up again and go from there.

Remember: Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate and hate leads to the dark side! But we are DJedis of light and love of music… so no reason to be scared…

Recently I am detecting an increased “pickiness” with the crowd here. Even older crowds (i.e. my own age) will only accept the absolute hits and floor fillers of yester year. I too like playing something that is harmonically, musically and beat wise in tune with the previous tune. But more and more so it DOES have a negative impact on the number of people dancing.

So, unfortunately, yes, I have that happening more and more. The flipside to that is that while 10 years ago if you played an 80s night, 90s where almost out of the question, let alone the 00’s. Now not only do I get away with playing some very current floor fillers, but get asked for them even.

So, even for an 80 or 90s theme night I will end up playing Happy and Levels.

Ah, it’s what keeps it a dynamic hobby/job.

    Greetinx.
