MemberWhy? It’s the truth. Untill we make it big and tour doing our own shows, it isn’t about us.

InactiveIt’s good you learn to beat match. For me it was always an mechanical thing to learn when I did vinyl DJ:ing long time ago where I was more interested to get the crowd excited by selecting interesting tracks and blending them together. Wish I had all the nice tools available long time ago.
Suspect ten years from now it’s not even a big issue as a lot of bleeding edge DJ:ing is to use all kinds of audio units to extend the show (video, Maschine, dual-DJ:ing) so it even forces sync in to keep everything working in a complex environment.

MemberFor the record i dont use sinc. But i find it funny ones that do cant get away from digi hate on digi forums. Its like lets make everyone drive 5 speed vehicles. If u can’t then just dont drive even though you can do the same thing in an auto. But you wont be a ‘real’ driver because you cant drive a stick.

InactiveYes I also find it intriguing. I suspect it has to do with someone spending a lot of time learning this and now when this is available as a feature feel that they need to elevate the manual sync as something magical that the audience requires. The audience really don’t care much, they want to be entertained.
I’ve seen my share of ‘technical’ beginner DJs that come to a club thinking that showing their technical skills will make put the audience in awe. While it mostly clears the dance floors pretty quickly.
PS: I don’t say manual sync learning is a waste of time. Let’s say your Traktor grid lines start to deviate after 20% into the track and you need to fix this rapidly…. Or you are have to use CDJs… A well-rounded DJ knows how to handle all those situations.

MemberYou dont use sync but you defend it like if you use it
Driving a “fast” car doesnt mean you can drive a race car but sure you need some.basic concepts step by step yo drivr a race carYou cant run if you havent learn to crawl or even walk

InactiveI always purchase manual stick gear cars but I don’t think those who drive automatic cars are bad drivers…
So I don’t see the point why including DJs using sync are ‘fake DJs’. Having a pre-defined mix played back is ‘fake’.October 8, 2012 at 8:09 am #1013209DJ Jaquay
MemberThe only time i tried it out it was the worst trainwreck ever. It’s not a magical fix all button. Fks me up. But if someone else can use it and still put out a good set then more power to him.

MemberAs many have said it’s about playing the right song & getting people to dance. I’d be hesitant to call them fake DJ’s because they don’t mix similar to how I wouldn’t call someone a fake guitarist because they aren’t highly technical or play guitar solos. I definitely respect learning to mix well but at the same time I think it’s a skill DJ’s put too much value on.

KeymasterJust for the record: I use sync 😛
I use all the tools handed to me, but I am prepared if that tools fail or the beatgrid is wrong etc.
Just because I can, does not mean I have to and vice versa….. it is not about the tools, it is about the music.October 9, 2012 at 7:18 pm #1013285squarecell
ParticipantBeatmatching means nothing if you’re only playing rubbish music and no one is dancing. Hard to call yourself a DJ then.
If you’re dropping the right tracks at the right time, beatmatched or not, I’d say you’re doing a DJ’s job.If there’s one good thing the sync button has done it’s removed the articifial barrier that existed between the Pro DJ cult and those who aspired to become one.
Just like learning how to use a camera in manual mode doesn’t mean you’re suddenly a top-notch photographer, nor does learning to manually beatmatch make you a “real DJ”. Yes, in both cases it helps to be able to have the hands on control instead of relying on the machine to do it for you, but at the end of the day a good photograph is a good photograph and a good DJ set is a good DJ set, regardless of the technical skill it required to make it.
And for the record, yes I can beatmatch manually, but sometimes I choose to use the sync button to allow me to focus on other things.
