Here’s a tip … Don’t get drunk or high when you’re working it’s a sure way not to get invited back.

Got any tips for the tipsy DJ?…

Yeah, the next time you plan on getting “tipsy” when you’re playing out, record your set. Then listen to it the next day.
I’d be willing to bet good money you won’t like what you hear.

Agree totally. At a house party yeah, but this was the same party that I put on a pre recorded 30 min mix so I could go mingle in the middle of my set, lost track of time and then…the music stopped…and I was like, ummm…my bad haha – good thing it was a large group of my friends. DJing a fairly large Halloween Party (about 200 people) and you can guarantee that I’ll have water or redbull w/ me 🙂

I don’t do it at all these days. Just to much opportunity to screw up. Back in the day the classic error was lifting the needle off the record which is playing, not the one you meant to cue.

Of all the years playing out in a club, only once, we all went out beforehand for a good ruby and few pints, mixing was a bit scrappy but remember dropping LabRats ‘Music is my way of life’ as the opener, so must’ve been late 90s. House parties though, yep many times, but all good fun! On my gigs and my new radio show, no, would not do it, couple of beers, but that’s it, save it for afterwards. 🙂

I drink about 10-20 Tequilla a night when I DJ at the Club 😛 as many patrons pay me drinks….
However it is not Tequilla I drink, whenever they order one for me the waiter knows to bring me Ginger Ale in a shotglass. My special bottle has been shaken like mad, so there are no bubbles in the shotglass…. looks like brown Tequilla and the audience loves it…
    Besides that: Coffee, Coke.

I’m definately going to be using that idea!

On the topic, however, If you’re getting paid to do it, don’t drink. If I’m doing a non-paid venue like a really big house party or a campus-sponsored event, I’ll bring 3 or 4 Rockstar Energy drinks for the night. (Poured into a solo cup, rockstar looks just like beer)

In the summer months I dj 6 nights a week in a club. It can be tempting when get offered free drinks and shots etc. The main club i dj at the boss says im a better dj when im drinking 😉 I never have more than a 2-3 drinks and a few shots here and there over the night. I DJ every single Friday and Saturday nights and over a summer season in the Costa Del Sol and at the end of the day its my weekend too so getting into the groove of the club is ok if you can handle it drink wise is ok. I am also in charge of hiring other DJ’s and in the past young big shot DJ’s have gone over the top with drink and been to pissed to continue so I have been called to take over for them which makes them look unprofessional and ultimately they are not hired again.

I think maybe you should be asking if you have DJ’ed while using drugs? Most clubs people frequent these days prob half of them are on Coke or E’s. I have DJ’ed while under the influence of both 😉

Is it time for DDJT CHALLENGE?
Get totally smashed then record a mix and post it to this thread. Best drunk mix gets boasting rights. LOL
