    If you want to stick with Traktor software, there is really one piece of good advice and that is to get a Traktor controller. Their entry level is the S2, which you can buy or used.

    All other software it’s better to not use the Traktor controllers.
    Numark = fine
    Vestax = no longer supported as manufacturer went out of business. Don’t burn your fingers on it unless you like fiddling around with computers and even then there is a moment in the future that it just won’t work anymore.
    Hercules = far be it from me to trash anything, but I would not recommend the Hercules.
    Behringer = up to you. While some of their gear is ok or even good, overall I have been disappointed too many times and gave up on them a long time ago.

    Some other controllers to consider:
    – Numark Mixtrack Pro (1, 2 and 3)
    – Pioneer DDJ-SB (all versions), DDJ-RB (but only if you are sure you want to use RekordBox and only RekordBox)
    – Reloop Beatmix 2 (all versions)
    – Denon MC2000 (no longer produced, bit should be available second-hand)

    All these controllers are natively supported by almost all major DJ software, giving you a chance to figure out what software you like best without having to change controllers to accomodate that switch.

    i have Kontrol S8 and just bought Reloop Mixtour to run Spotify on DJay for iOS. i was bummed to realize while you can download tracks on the Spotify app, for DJay you have to download them one at a time in real time (while one deck is playing you download the other deck. yuck!).
    so i explored the Mixtour with DJ Player Pro and Trackor2 Mac and it’s been a great little controller.
    the thing is it’s also a sound card with 4 outs (mains and head phones).
    so make sure you aren’t just looking at controllers, but actual 4 channel sound card controllers if you want to be able to monitor while performing in stereo.

    All controllers mentioned in my reply have that. No worries there. Usually a controller will either have NO soundcard (like the regular not the pro Mixtrack) or it will have the option for stereo master out and headphones.

    I’ve recently purchased an S2 as I’m new to digital mixing, and can highly recommend, get yourself an F1 to slap on as well especially if you like loops and samples

    The S2 is a great entry-level controller, provided you know you want Traktor and intend to stick with it. I wouldn’t recommend it for other software though.
