entertaining on the decks/controller

It’s not a question of keeping busy, it’s a question of playing music that moves the crowd. Do that, and be amiable to whoever comes to talk to you, and the crowd will remember that over and above anything else.
It’s about the music, not what you think you look like. Most crowds won’t care what you’re doing in the DJ booth as long as it sounds good.

Just don’t have serato stare 😀

Hehe no seriously: I try to read the crowd, be entertaining, wave to people I know, toast some mates, make mice googly eyes at some ladies, do some robo moves then drop some bass and do the Jesus 😉 You know whatever floats your boat basically.

Having a boogie behind the decks is always a good idea, if you’re enjoying yourself then show it. If you aren’t then tell your face to at least pretend that you are 😉
As for button mashing to make it look as if you’re doing something no No NO! Don’t muck about with the music unless that effect knob you’re tweaking is going to make that crescendo sound epic. Effects have their place, and a few well placed button pushes are what you and the crowd will appreciate.
Be prepared to make mistakes, learn from them and enjoy yourself no matter what.

Before I DJ’d I was an avid club goer, dancing my arse off 3 nights a week. The only time I looked towards the DJ booth was when the DJ messed up or played some lame song, otherwise I was too busy dancing and having fun. When I see these videos of thousands of people pretty much standing still staring up at the superstar DJ…I don’t get it. At any rate I have fun whilst DJing, I’m dancing in the booth. As for adding FX and samples and such I do it in moderation. Too it’s OK to chill for a bit, sip a beer, think about where you wanna go next, eyeball some ladies on the dancefloor.

Staring at your decks all the time its not a good idea, this is a mistakes that many young DJ’s have, they starrin at their laptop screen, bow their heads deep down in their decks.

Raise your head up high, analyze your crowds, look around left and right, and question yourself why this one crowds just sit in their table? Make an eye contacts with the honeys that dancing their butt off to your tunes that YOU Sir spin (err if there is no honeys in the dance floor at all questions yourself why) and most importantly SMILE ! I dont get why all todays DJ got this cold-horror looks in their face not a glimpse of smile at all. SMILE ! this is your Church, this is your office and you the BOSS, OWN IT !

Serious m8, if you expect to make constant good money DJ-ing, unless you are becoming the next Guetta or Armin, weddings, anniversaries and (corporate) events are where the money is. And since professional essentially means you are getting paid for what you are doing, I’d say mobile DJ-ing is most definitely PROFESSIONAL 😀 .

It’s way different from club DJ-ing, I’ll give you that. But a good wedding DJ can make an easy 700-1000 per night, every night! I don’t know too many club DJ’s that make that kind of money on a consistent basis. Not until they have made a name for themselves.

So, say sorry to all those PRO mobile DJ’s out there that read our forum too and maybe we don’t have to lynch you.
