ParticipantI’m thrilled that this is starting up! Again, I would absolutely love to get involved or offer my help in any way when I get out there in June (hopefully by then it will be a weekly thing anyway!). Definitely keep updating this thread so everyone can stay in the loop. Thanks again!

ParticipantUpdate: Demonick has scheduling problems with work, so we are down to 3. It will be running w/

Dj Phaydnit’s going to be interesting considering our lowest BPM is in the mid 130s; perhaps if Phadyn can do some dub step/drumstep (or if the MC phaydn wanted to bring can spit to glitch hop) we will be fine (figure dubstep is 1/2stepped anyway). I do a little chillstep myself, but was really looking forward to having hardstyle at a venue in DC. We’ll figure it out I’m sure.
Also, I just got a new canvasing job, and if I don’t quota out a large portion of my time may be occupied (I’ll still be able to promote from midnight-2 7 days a week and 7am-11am 5 days a week. However, this will give me a budget of about 450-500 to work with for lighting/fog (what’s a rave without lazer beams anyway?). I’m looking into the lack-of-promotion, and considering giving a volunteer promoter the exact same commission we are receiving (if Phaydn’s MC will be promoter, I have no problem with him guiding the night).
We’ll keep in touch, my goal is to have the flyer completed this weekend.

ParticipantThanks for the update! I can easily start with a lower bpm and work up to the mid 130’s or around 140. If that means I go first, no problem. I’m flexible.
For promotion, I started a FB event page for the evening to reach out to my friends and groups (https://www.facebook.com/events/144998655657935 ). I also have about $100 in credit with google, so I will run some ad-words (those ads that come up when you do key word searches). Am also going to look into doing a bit of facebook advertising. Not sure on the cost of that. I’ll keep you all updated. The sooner Electric Maid can get the event posted on their FB page, the better, in my opinion.

ParticipantThanks so much man, and I’m supposed to talk to Joel later today. I accidentally blew off the Maid’s open mic because I went from interview immediately to first day, then have been working since.

ParticipantAlright, so the Flyer is actually in the works as we speak (Roommate’s actually turning it into a hand-made stencil piece as opposed to a generic photoshop). I told him to leave room for the potential name of 1 more, which if I do not receive a confirmation by the end of the week the flyer’s going out with 3 names on it.
Two fridays from now I will be able to pick up lighting, and I’ll try to get the flyer in a printable stage no later than wednesday, and will be distributing starting friday.
Can’t tell you how much I appreciate you Daryl, I’ve been running into hurdles left and right with cancellations, wet-behind-the-ears acts who think they’re the next Tiesto and everyone should be opening for their 2 hour set (not to mention they should be making 100s……..because they can bring out all 10 of their twitter followers I’m sure) and just unfortunate circumstances regarding other DJs and work schedules (no hate your way Demonick, there should be a show in March and 2 in April and hopefully you’ll be able to make one of those).
Without your help Daryl, I don’t know if I could have swung this alone.

ParticipantHappy to help, mate! Can’t wait to see the flyer.
Little do those other guys know that before “Tiesto” was “Tiesto” he was just “some guy scrounging for his first few gigs.”

Demo mix up, we have 1 week left. I’m going to be getting the light setup tomorrow. I haven’t been this excited for a show since……..ever. No Avicii in my set whatsoever……… thank fucking god XD.

ParticipantAlright, so 24 hours from now the show will be wrapping up, I’m pretty stoked.
If this night goes over well (It’s a smaller spot, 75 man occupancy) we’ll be able to start up shows more frequently/ extending the event and snagging more DJs/lights/SUBWOOFERS. Let’s see how the whole above-ground rave-themed party goes.

ParticipantShow happened, was a blast. Had about 40-50 people cycle through on a thursday, and a great mix of DnB/Break/Electro/Dub & Drumstep/Hardstyle. The venue wants to continue the event, so next month we’re going for a weekend slot, opening 2 hours earlier with electronic bands to open up for the djs, and so on so forth. Keep in touch.

ParticipantHell yes! Show was great. Crowd was great, and the other DJ’s killed it!

MemberThis is absolutely awesome…! I’d love to be able to do this in my hometown (about 1hr. south of you) but more importantly I’d love to be a participant in this or any upcoming show you do. I do some flyer designing as well so that might help you as well. If at all possible I’d like to start on whatever path you deem to end up being a consideration. Everything I do could be heard on my site below. I spin mostly Dubstep & Trap but also love Electro & Tech House. In the end, I would like info on any shows you guys put on because I’d like to support & meet you all…! Thanks!!!

ParticipantFor the March show we are fully booked, but I will be out of town in April and we should be able to book you then. discipleofnietzsche@gmail.com . Email me March 30th so I remember and I’ll make sure you get a slot for the April show. We’re pretty heavy on dub/electro; tech house would be sick. Trap music….*shudder*….. to each their own =D.

ParticipantJust to clarify, even though I will be out of town in April (gone from April-late September, I may be able to come up for shows depending on my work schedule) but will still be making sure these events happen.

That would be totally awesome…! Thank you for the opportunity! Tech it is…! Lmao…no love for the Trap eh? I got hooked when I saw Crizzly last summer and Reid Speed banged up Soundstage in Baltimore before Skream shut it down…! It’s like my bridge between Hip Hop, which I’m often forced to play locally, and Dubstep. But again thanks and I’ll stay in touch.

trap music in a nutshell
But most definitely man, the idea behind the event is to provide a space for DJing to be represented as an art. With celebrity djs and producer-only types getting booked on their name alone, I wish to preserve the integrity of the art in any way possible and provide a space to hear music you won’t in most of the clubs in the DMV area (like anyone’ll actually book a hardstyle/gabber dj at a club in DC XD)
