I guess when people go clubing, they do for the music the DJ is playing and his style! If the DJ gets fired, than maybe the other isn’t as well known to rock the club. So then, the audience he made goes along with him and then financial problems come!…

I don’t think there’s an absolute 1:1 correspondence. However, it’s not uncommon that a DJ starts bringing in large crowds, he or she tries to re-negotiate the fee with the establishment owner, establishment owner bails out and hires someone cheaper, crowd goes away….

Seen it many times. People expect something from a certain place, if you take that away, soon it will fail.
We have a bar here that is focused on live bands, I would not want to DJ there as people expect this to be a live band bar…
I think it is more about expectations not being met than the actual DJ…

I think this hit it right on the nail.

I think a business that replaces a dj with a cheaper one or does away with djs altogether is struggling to begin with. The owner is just trying to cut expenses to stay afloat. Owner’s who focus on cutting expenses instead of driving business generally have trouble being successful.

Yep, I agree. Being cheap will come back to haunt you.

Of course it’s more satisfying for a DJ who got kicked out to say that the venue went broke because of that. But i’d assume that most of the time it’s the other way round: The venue already has financial difficulties and tries some change of concept as a last rescue effort, firing the DJ in the process. When that doesn’t help, they close down, as they would’ve been forced to anyway. Seems like a more realistic explanation to me, for most of these cases.
