GuestI also use Mp3tag on my Windows 7 PC. There’s a new version out now, v2.49a.
It’s good for quickly renaming your files based on their tags. I also use it to ensure that my tags are clean. For example I always like to put the mix name inside square brackets next to the track name rather than in curved brackets,
e.g. Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes [Armin Van Buuren’s Universal Religion Remix]

Participant“The GodFather” tricky to get set up but great once you know how i mainly use it for changing names, buy tunes from the net and they have underlines, numbers and other characters “The Godfather” can change the file names to what it should be in a batch so if you have run 100 tunes through Platinum Notes and have that dreaded pn.mp3 at the end of the name The GodFather can sort it, if not see Vito Corleone 🙂

You can drag hundreds of songs onto the TuneUp sidebar in a single click does the job. When it’s done, you’ll have a list to approve with any tricky songs or album. The free version of TuneUp is limited to 50 songs per month
I used Tuneup and it made a complete mess of my music collection. Never again! It took me ages to get things back to normal. It seems decent for mainstream albums but anything else it struggles with.

MemberI use Taghycardia and occasionally tagscanner (both are free, for PC). Taghycardia is a highly automated tagger that greatly simplifies the task of preparing downloaded albums for putting onto my iPhone. The program prompts on any tag inconsistencies or missing crucial info (album, artist, etc.) whenever it cannot correct an error automatically. In addition, it can auto-download and embed missing album art if the corresponding option is selected. In addition, sometimes I use tagscanner for perfecting tags manually in my hdd mp3 collection.

ModeratorMaybe we should close certain topics after a while. This thread was started in mid 2011 I think, last post was from mid 2012 and … la voila! … another entry early 2013 🙂

MemberYes I definitely use mp3 tagging software when I have a mess load of songs that are not tagged properly. Other times I do it manually.

ParticipantGents:
The majority of music I buy is from Beatport, and if you preview a song, it lays out the waveform with the preview portion highlighted in green, and the key of each tune just below. I simply use this information and edit the comments section in iTunes after I purchase and drop it in my library. Anything wrong with this method? Am I missing something that the software key detection systems do? Even if I find the same tune @320 elsewhere for cheaper, I refer to Beatport’s key information.

ParticipantMay I recommend a FREE MP3 tagging tool called MP3TAG which can be downloaded from http://www.mp3tag.de/en/. I have used it with much success as a Traktor user. It can do batch saving and is customizable. It also let’s you remove the cover images from tracks. The track cover images slow down indexing of your tracks. I have never had issues using it and it has sped up my tagging process.

Participant+1 on MP3Tag, the ability to create custom scripts & actions is invaluable. Another good tool is Magnus Brading’s MP3 Tag Studio.

But if anyone has the time (or inclination :)) to Explain to me a little bit about the Benefit of MP3 ID3 Tagging; I would be Very Grateful (as I could/would use it in my Work if I Understood it – and I Don’t);
I Do Understand Metadata (having looked it up); but I still have Traktor Pro 2 on my laptop; and would like to Understand ‘What’ the MP3 ID3 Tagging is actually ‘For’; (and How it My Benefit me Obviously :))

ParticipantI use a free and very well featured program called MP3TAG which you can download from http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html . It allows me to format the track information (Song Name / Artist / BPM / Year / Genre /comments) exactly the way I want my midi controller to see the information as well as remove additional manufacturer track information like album name, track number,etc, that I do not need, I also rename the actual file name in a specific format based on my DJing style. It also allows me to remove the track cover art which adds time to Traktor to index the files on startup and it does not lose any of the key information that Traktor added for me.

MemberI don’t buy MP3’s, don’t see the point, especially the 256k they sell on iTunes. Surely with today’s bandwidth we should settle on FLAC at least.
