MemberI personally going with the Denon. Both the Denon and Numark have real mixers in them that don’t rely on the computer and both have booth outputs and 2 mic inputs. SO they are both pretty even in that regard. I just prefer how Denon did those things better than Numark. The fact that the booth outputs are balanced and that the mics are on their own separate channels is another plus. I just wish Denon had made two versions of the MC6000 a rack mountable one like what they have now and a club version that is a little wider to space out the controls a bit. But thats my take on it…

MemberYea I would have to say that the NS6 has everything you could ever want.
However, if scratching isn’t important and you aren’t one to pull of any special cuts with the faders then why not go with the S4? A huge thing for me was the jog resolution and scratching capability of the NS6, so that I could pull off minor cuts. But as you mentioned you aren’t much of a scratcher, and the cramped layout of the Denon is a no go for me. The S4 might not be my style, but I can’t deny the fact that it has a lot to offer for the price.

MemberHey guys, wow thanks for the input. Most of us are really interested in these three top guns of the four channel controller race. What Imma try to do this weekend is to try and study even just the basics of TP2(I only have the demo version) via my mixtrack pro. Really now, my choices are narrowed down with just the NS6 and the S4.
Yeah, the cool thing about S4 is it comes with the full TP2 so I don’t really have to purchase another DJ Software pack or upgrade to a Full version. I dunno about the ITCH as I haven’t really seen it yet, but I’ve really seen majority of the mixing DJs just use ITCH.
I dunno if I’ll get bashed for saying this, but the parallel waveforms akin to ITCH and VDJ is just lovely…

That really sucks because touching these units really helps clarify what you want. Good news is all 3 are really good and it comes down to preference (both hardware/software) and what you plan to do with it. Know that whatever you get will be good and you’ll probably be pretty happy!
My $.02
Denon mc6000- swiss army knife. Compact with lots of features and quality. Flexible system. Seeing lots of mappings and firmware support. All good things if you like that. I personally don’t want to spend more time futzing and configuring than practicing. If you do like completely customizing to you than this is a great unit. I also thought it was too small for me, but I do miss the small size for portable but I’ll probably pick up a used vci-300 (or twitch) for a portable itch capable deck.S4-I prefer itch to traktor but using the S4 with traktor is amazing. All things I found complicated with other controllers (tried mixtrack, reloop, and mc6000) all of a sudden seemed easy and intuitive. If you love traktor and don’t need the flexibility of the denon then it’s great fun.
NS6 – Have not touched it. I have the NS7 and like itch so I plan to play with one soon but I’m waiting to see what Itch 2.0 brings to both units. Seems like it brings the best of most worlds. Simplicity of itch and great controller with a lot of learning from the NS7 and mixtrack/mixdeck. Plus a lot of the flexibilty in software and hardware that the denon offers.
I’d say watch a ton of videos on youtube of people using all three units. Watch their movements with the knobs, faders, jogs. You might also see if you can get some hi res pictures and print out actual scale 1:1 pictures on several pieces of paper. You’d have a flat version to stand in front of and see how the spacing feels. Or maybe try drawing on posterboard/drafting paper. Hope that helps!

MemberPersonally, I think that TP2 has quite a steep learning curve. Currently, I use VDJ Pro 7 and I’m pretty happy with it, though I would want to explore other options for the software. ITCH 2.0 isn’t out yet is it? Pardon me, but I definitely have no idea how serato software works as they are in all proprietary hardware(is that even the right way to describe it?). I’ve only seen it on videos, but nothing of the real thing, so yeah, I’m pretty much left with NS6 and S4.
But then, I’m considering of this purchase this coming holidays. Long way to go, maybe something really really awesome will come along, who knows, but for now, I’ll bet my moolah on S4 and NS6

Member@paul:if you like traktor and you are planning to use it in the pro version(which you do if you are getting an s4.-) i suggest you the “traktor-bible” really a great book, covers many aspects that aren`t mentioned in the official traktor handbook and its well structured..there is a traktor pro2 version of the bible out now,i still have the old version, but it helped me alot when i was starting with traktor..

ParticipantI have played on the Denon unit using both Traktor LE and the hacked mapping for Serato SSL (not Itch) with great results. I don’t have a lot of experience with Traktor software but I have used a lot of various Denon gear in different dj booths over the years and the mc6000 feels like pro-grade equipment and I got the basics down pretty quick with Traktor. With the hacked midi-mapping for ScratchLive, I found it performs quite nicely as well.

Memberhey @mindfloat. Thanks for the tip. Might get this book in the coming weeks. Shipping costs will definitely kill my budget as it costs more than the actual item itself. Hahah!

ParticipantHey, Paul.. I can’t really give any leans on the other as I havent toyed with them but I did get an NS6 recently and, depending how creative you are or want to be with your set, it’s a pretty decent buy.
The setup and learning curve is pretty straight-forward, especially if it wont be your first foray in actually using tangible gear.
Im still getting the hang of it and will sometimes find myself stumbling but the custom version of ITCH that it comes with is seamless with connectivity and relativity to the midi controls.
Bouncing between four decks, if you venture there, comes second nature after a while and is pretty solid in functionality. It is pretty heavy as someone said but the positive on that is that it looks and feels superb. The build quality is sturdy and abuse-ready.
Interoperability with VDJ 7 is pretty easy too, once you download the midi-map, which is free at press-time. I didnt try it with the four deck skin but everything reacted as it should, save for some tweaks here and there.so… yeah ๐

ParticipantI Would start by taking away the S4. Because NS6 & MC6000 both has mixers that can be used without computer and the only advantage the S4 has is that the layout is very good for Traktor SW.
In NS6 and MC6000 you have a back up if the computer crashes or you have to restart. Also NS6 has better buid quality while Denon MC6000 has even better buidquality. NS6 is buit and bundled together with Itch and if you want another SW you pay for Itch and do not use it together with that the layout is not so good for other SW. Denon MC6000 has a layout that works very well with Traktor, VDJ and SSL. I have tested with all three it works very well The MC6000 works with any SW but I have not personally tested it with other than the three above.
People that says that the MC6000 is cramped between the button has proberbly not tested the unit for more than 5min.
That was the time it took me before I changed my mind in that point and forget about it.I have three friends that has the MC6000 and we all four of us love our units ๐
I stronly recommend that you think about what SW you will use and then test all units in a store yourself.

ParticipantI’d like to echo what DJ Hessler has said in favor of the MC6000. The build quality is excellent. It works well with both Traktor and VDJ. The stand alone mixer lets you work with a variety of audio sources and gives you a lot of flexibility as you move forward with your DJing. I’ve been using the unit for around 8months and can’t recall a single instance when the “cramped” layout has ever caused an error in my mixing. Actually, I’ve heard and read more people in favor of the smaller size than those who find it to be a problem.
