MemberWhat software are you planning to use? If answer is TP2, you must go with S4

MemberI am not yet that very much accustomed to TP2 just yet, tried the demo once, but I am having a hard time learning it, having started out using VDJ Pro 7 via Numark Mixtrack Pro. And I don’t have any idea about Serato stuff either.
I actually don’t have DJ friends so it’s much more like I’m learning by myself here.

Please try to take the time to explain why, it’ll be more helpful to the reader that way.

MemberHi Phil, could you post your thoughts please. 🙂 I never really had the chance to test and feel all those gears here in our country as Digital DJing is not really a big of a hobby here in the Philippines. I’ve tried to look everywhere but the closest I could get all those stuff is if I’d fly to HongKong or Singapore, which would be such a burden that’s why I’d most likely base my final thoughts depending on what I see and hear through other people

ParticipantI bought an S4 and really like everything about it, except for the build quality. It’s not bad, but does feel plasticy and the faders could be a lot more solid. I use mine every friday so have to take it with me to the club in a bag, the low weight makes this easy.
I think it’s a bit overpriced for the materials used, I happened to get a good deal direct from the supplier, I would’ve been disappointed if i’d paid full price…The Denon looks really solid, but I havn’t really seen anyone talking about it online much, so I feel if I traded in for that I’d be a bit on my own if any problems/setup issues came up.
What about that A&H one, DB4 is it?

It’s amazing, but costs a BOMB and is more of a mixer than a controller. It’s definitely more than the OP needs to spend.
The NS6 looks sweet, and ITCH is pretty good intuitive software (the forthcoming ITCH 2.0 looks to be much improved). That said, the NS6 does weigh a ton, and is pretty massive. The S4 is very good, and the software’s great once you get the hang of it, which doesn’t take long.
To be honest the NS6 would probably do everything you’d ever want it to, being an analogue mixer as well as a midi controller, but it depends whether you want to lug it around everywhere.

hey alex, good to hear from someone that owns an s4,as i`m thinking about getting one as well,i was in my local music store last week to check it out, overall i like the design, even if the s4 is a beast in terms of the size(not really “mobile” .-),but i also thought that its overpriced, and if i looked correctly there aren`t changeable faders which is really embarrasing for a “premium” product..on the other hand i would get it at a lower price,i worked in the store a few years ago..mhhmm i should check out this denon controller,i have faith in denon,i still have an amplifier made by them which lasts since 1993 now..

MemberI think the S4’s price is very fair, especially considering it comes with a full version of Traktor Pro 2. And I think making the faders replaceable would have made it EVEN bigger.

ParticipantYeah the faders are the real let down for me. They just dont feel like they will handle fast cuts, on the upfaders esp, for a very long time before they break/wear out.
But, on the other hand, the ease of mixing in traktor with it almost balances out the negatives…

Posted my other reply before I saw this. I see your point about the software making it good value. I think because I already owned TP I felt like I’d already paid for that. But that’s just my situation, I know others will appreciate the software included.
And I suppose you’re right about the faders, it would have been as deep as a regular mixer and much heavier. I guess if you view it purely as a controller and not as a mixer than you won’t be disappointed 😀

MemberIn comparison to something like the Pioneer DDJ-T1 it’s great value.

Memberreplaceable faders should be standard on pro equipment,i have an old crappy behringer mixer(never ever buy behringer products!),even that has replaceable faders .-) if i look back its the crucial part on every dj equipment..and for tp2 inside the package, cool for absolute beginners but they should also sell it without software for the people who bought tp2 already..i think i`ll check out the denon controller,if this is not my kind of thing i wait for a price drop on the s4+getting a discount in the store, then it`s surely the thing to go .-)
