Of course it is personal preference! However I prefer to see tracks counting down, it allows me to see how long is left to play

Yep, the main reason (most) DJs (that I know) have their counters counting back is that even when they don’t know the track length, during the entire track they can quickly see how much time is left before that next track needs to happen.

You can use your comment field method for that (although I certainly hope that you play at such club gear that it will have at least RekordBox comptibility and you can just drop a couple of hot cues), just need to note the time remaining for the point you want, not the time played.

Yeah I agree the best way is to have the track time counting down to zero but it’s up to you. Although I am new to using a laptop for Djing I like the features on screen and I get two read outs. One counts up the other counts down, so see if you can get that option on screen.

+1 for counting down here. A lot easier in the heat of the moment.

Cue points are set in rekordbox so I’m able to call them really fast. Seems like quite a hassle to open the comment on the CDJ screen, find the spot and search the beat.

Am I the only one with software which displays both..? 😉

Both are useful, counting down or just knowing the track (I can tell where I am in a track and how much more there is to go in bars without needing any display or counter just from knowing the track structure – which is almost identical for 90% of the tracks I play) is more useful than counting up. But I still use both.. 🙂

Yeah Serato displays both, so I do not care 😉

I’m the same I use traitor pro 2 and use the beats to cue feature and find that its a lot easier to know when my drop, break, phase whichever is coming, I also use the comments section so I know which each cue point is for and y its there. Of course this is personal preference but it helps me a lot

Sorry, it also frees up time to work the track more, so instead of spending time pre cueing tracks with headphones and then pause wait drop etc like we did “back then” or sticking shit loads of stickers on your vinyl. I now know b4 I play a track how long I have or when a vocal or loop (or both) ,fx,or plain build up \ drop to next trk is going to work. Also not so much “serato face” either \ interaction with music and ppl .

Traktor displays time played, time left and also the cute little wave form with minute breaks in it. If I’m on CDJ’s without Traktor, which is rare these days, I always set them to display time remaining.

You can also change it to how it suits you. I also have the key of the track current BPM and original BPM of the track which is a feature I like a lot with traktor lol sorry about the typo my crappy auto correct trying to do things for me
