You need some “flat response” cans for producing. They don’t enhance the sound as most do so you get a real representation of how your tracks add up. Most enhance bass cuz that’s what we tend to like most and most DJ cans are like this. Audio Technica ATH-40s are pretty good and only run $60. Hope this helps…

Are those these? they seem to be very good, I like them, but shouldn´t I go for a newer model?

aand jack is 3.5mm? cause I have to manage how to put it in my laptop 😀

Yeah that’s them… Don’t get caught up in the “latest & greatest” trap. It’s about finding what performs to your standards and budget. When i first got mine, the salesman (a studio engineer) showed me those first, then said if you want the same percormance for $200 you can get these and showed me some more expensive cans. The fact that he didnt try to upsell me made a big impression on me and I’ve been a Chuck Levin’s shopper ever sense. As far as the jack, $3-4 gets you a reducer at any Radio Shack or Best Buy type store. Hope this helps.

The 50s are nice too, a lil more and have a coiled cable. I did notice the bass boost a little. You can look up frequency responses of a lot of varied cans here: http://www.headphone.com/learning-center/build-a-graph.php

Sennheiser HD 25s.
200 bucks but well worth it for production work, as they are truely amazing sound quality. However they also rock for DJing and are not by mistake the most sold DJ headphone on the planet (in the pro market). Plus you can replace any part of them yourself and the parts are available for like ever now and I guess will be in the next 10 years…

Second that!

Absolutely fabulous for sound engineering live and studio work, which makes them great for producing too I assume :-). And yes, super for DJ-ing as well!

Long term the fact that you can exchange every single piece of it will definitely help keeping it up and running for a very long time!

I had days when I had the Sennheiser on for 36 hours straight when we had a “we need to get that track down” studio session (ok that is more than a day) and I had no issues.
But headphones have to be comfy, so what is comfy for me might be not OK for you. Like I cannot use the AIAIA because they are too tight on my head… so for production it is important to try them on any chance you get.

thank you very much.. but I´m afraid I will have to go for a cheaper option.. I guess Sennhoisers are better(and therefore more expensive), but for a 70 euro this ATH-40s are still good too 🙂

what do you think about these? do they have a lack of bass? http://www.headfonia.com/a-dynamic-driver-fostex-fostex-th-7b/

For recording purposes I still use an aging pair of AKG K240’s that have lasted me *forever* but they don’t fit as comfortable after years (and years) of abuse. I need to replace them at this late date… For DJ’ing, I picked up a pair of Sennheiser HD 205’s which are very affordable, starter DJ headphones (as I wasn’t prepared to spend on the HD 25’s for what was, at the time, a new hobby.) I picked them up for a song on eBay, so take that under consideration.
