Yeah, definitely a great app, best one for DJing on a mobile platform for sure.
I have it for both iPhone / iPad, pretty crazy how you can just connect it to speakers via headphone jack and just start DJing.

Do you think DJs would be willing to adapt this though? Like DJing on 2 iPads instead of turn tables? I’m not sure I would…

Andrew and Andrew use iPads and iPods already for djing their sets and I know others use them for controller purposes – I don’t think its too hard to imagine them being used more in the future. My only squabble with them is the wireless connection – still a bit buggy for me to really trust it. But just for running djay straight into a system – I wouldn’t think any less of someone rocking a party with just an iPad – in fact I would think thats pretty cool. But just like digital I think it would be a long time before purists get used to the idea.

Yea I know Andrew and Andrew use them but it’s for controlling other dj software suchs as traktor and ableton. Djay is pretty much another djing software itself. And now griffin is coming out with plit cables so you can cue up songs in one end and the master sound in the other.

You can make those cables from Tandy / Radio Shack parts pretty easily though… it’s an old trick for DJing without a DJ sound card.

I love djay, and I hear stories of it rescuing DJs playing in pro situations!

Agree’d its an amazing app, keep all the most fundamental parts simple and easy to use.

Not tried it. I think it would be a bit tough on an iPhone.

I would eventually love to try to do a Lemur style controls on a tablet.

I don’t think I could stand DJing without physical controls. It’d be like going back to VDJing with a mouse and keyboard!

One of the largest barriers I see is the fact that, currently, the most HD space you can get in an iPad is 64GB. Even if I **shudder** downsampled to 128 kbps AAC files, that’s not a very big library one can tote along.

On the library size subject, I think you can have enough music to play any situation in 32GB, never mind 64GB.

I agree too but want to give it a go to see what can be learned

Definitely. I trimmed some of the fat from my music library (basically just went through and went ctrl+clickclickclickclick delete on some folders I didn’t listen to any more). My music library is now 10 GiB, still bloated and has HEAPS for me That said, I don’t do 10 hour sets.

With proper planning I can do a couple of hours with 500mb of 320k files and have enough left over for an encore set. Not that I get very many (any) requests for encore sets. 😎

Always good to be prepared though! 😉

I used it for a mid-sized party. Not ideal, but it worked. And I quickly got used to the lack of physical controls—you can tell Algoriddim put a lot of work into the interface. It’s actually a much better app than the desktop version. I’m just bummed that I can’t use some of the new functions (keylock, for example) since I have a first-gen iPad.
