ParticipantYeah thanks Terry, I’m just starting out though. I’m more of a producer starting to dj (the opposite way xD). Was DJ Vintage serious about his turntables??

ParticipantUhhh, I’m from India and I’m only 14. So not sure if I could take it. Thank you all though.

ModeratorHi Cheeku,
I wasn’t serious about giving away CD-players. The S1200s are brand new and my new backup players, the CDI-500s are for sale, so not giving those away.
And you are 14, so plenty of time to build up a nice collection of gear yourself. Keep the passion, young friend!

ParticipantDJ Vintage and I joke around a little sorry to have confused you DJ Cheeku. Good luck and keep coming back if you need advice. Terry and Dj Vintage are always happy to assist and to that matter me too.
When I was your age I was delivering newspapers in the morning whilst still at school listening to the old hiphop and buying turntables from second hand shops and sales. Trying to piece together a system anyway I could. I got amps and speaker from these sales too. Trying to scratch records I bought after listening to the radio to learning what I could about the music.
I experimented with everything I could get my hands on. Different mixers, EQ units, amps, turntable setups etc.
Took me until age 19 to get my dream of owning a pair of technics 1210’s. I got there, played a few parties, bars and clubs in my time too. I observed a lot and talked to a lot of folks which is really important. Had a lot of fun in the process, so anything is possible.
Now of course you have the internet at you disposal with so much great info and contacts available.

ParticipantOh yeah, I actually need help choosing between Virtual DJ and Traktor. Since I will be djing with a Midi Keyboard, it should have an effective mapping system. I’ve been using Virtual DJ Pro Full 7 on my laptop and have been quite impressed with the key learn feature. But i’ve heard that Traktor is way more capable. So I thought I’ll ask here.
Thanks in advance.

Keymasterfeature wise VDJ has more features actually.
Mapping something completely new, both will have a steep learning curve.
Do not listen to people saying Traktor is the only way to go, VDJ is just as good nowadays. Go with what you feel will carry you best.June 30, 2014 at 1:42 pm #2039557siddharth.jha.email@gmail.com
ParticipantOK, Thanks Terry!

ParticipantSoftware is a personal preference. My preference is Traktor, i tried out the big three.
Worth trying out the demo’s to see which you prefer. If you are comfortable with VDJ and it give you what yo want now and some additional items fo further exploration stick with that.July 2, 2014 at 6:14 pm #2040331siddharth.jha.email@gmail.com
ParticipantThis may sound a bit foolish but, lets say after a gig someone asks me something like “what program did you use?”, I would definitely feel much better saying “Traktor Pro 2” than saying “Virtual DJ 7”. So just asking..If you know what I mean….

ParticipantYou should be saying Virtual DJ 8 instead !
should makes you feel way much betta ….July 3, 2014 at 10:19 am #2040497Phil Worrell
ParticipantDJ Cheeku, it does not matter which software you use, it only matters what you do with it.

ParticipantYou are absolutely 100% correct Phil, I used Traktor a bit and I quite liked the UI, but I have not yet tried the mapping system (I’m not at home and my keyboard is at home so…) and one more thing, I’m a producer at heart actually and spend more time making music than DJing, and the DAW that I use is Ableton Live 9. I have heard that many people use that as well to DJ. I am very comfortable with its workflow in music production but I’m just not able to see how I would insert a standard flanger or set up cue points….? I would prefer having only one software do everything (most probably Ableton) so if somebody can guide me to a place where I can learn to DJ in Live, I would be very grateful. Thanks a lot

ParticipantI don’t need the advanced DJ features like scratching live or pitch-shifting. I only need the basic eq controls, Gain controls, A crossfader, increasing or decreasing the tempo of the master and perfecting the “warp” feature in ableton. Any advice, comment or suggestion would be very appreciated. Thanks again n advance!
