MemberSounds like a good idea, but I’m not sure how that would be implemented at the live DJ’s end? Would it be in the form of a smartphone app or would the DJ need to have the software running alongside his DJing program? To be honest, I would be skeptical about running another program.

MemberIt’ll all be smart phone based for the live side. The first incarnation will be a mobile web friendly website. I’ll get the iphone and android apps worked out after some critical mass.
For the folks dancing, it’ll definitely be smartphone access. It’s been a while since I’ve been clubbing but even in the day no one brought laptops to clubs. *snicker. I checked my single user version and it works great on my iphone. Just needs a more friendly theme.

MemberIt’s funny you mention this, as I was thinking of why bar jukeboxes don’t run off iTunes and let their iPhone/iPad/iPod users play tracks that way.

MemberThat would be funny! Everyone at a bar with their headphones on listening to their choice of tunes…
That’s a nifty idea too… Perhaps a variant for that after I’m done with this thing.

MemberNo, not listening to it on their iPhones, but what they can do is link up to the iTunes DJ software built into iTunes and add songs to the playlist. Then iTunes makes guesses as to what you would like to hear based on what you have chosen.

MemberFair enough…
Well, my focus in any case is the request site. At this point I have the basics down for the mobile web and web page functionality. I just need to clean it up and then I can get some “early adopters” to give it a look see. Hopefully within a week…

Reminds me of a Festi tent where there were noise limits in place and everyone dancing had to wear wireless headphones

Silent party? That sounds… geekishly awesome.
I think this requests idea could do pretty well, it’s going to be flooded with shit requests though (like any request mechanism) and it’ll promote the “DJ is a breathing jukebox” idea.

MemberI can see your point with the breathing jukebox… But here’s my take on it: I currently use a single user version of the basic functionality for my internet broadcast (on Eve Radio). My listeners know I’ll entertain requests – doesn’t mean I’ll play ’em. Any thought on how to present it so it’s NOT like a JB?
I like knowing what people want to hear though and the historical record of requests helps determine the “weight” of a song week to week.
Shite requests? Really? It’ll be your collection of tunes, my friend. Each DJ has an “in rotation” list which folks can browse/search. When they find something they want to play they click a button. So the short version is that you’re only going to get requests for tunes that you’ve opted to make available TO be requested. Pretty slick, eh?
It’s kinda like the PHP request system that comes with SAMBC – but better ’cause anyone can use it – not just folks who use SAMBC.

😮 mindblown. Didn’t even think of that. I… wow. I like this.
