What’s ur opinion on my Name !?December 9, 2011 at 10:23 pm #11166D-Jam
Participant“Alex Moschopoulos” doesn’t ring very nicely or make it easy to put on a flyer.
“D-Jam” was a name my friends came up with. It’s basically “DJ” with my initials.
I don’t know if I wish I had chosen a different one. When I started spinning, the usual template of a DJ name was:
FirstName “Stage Name” LastName
Examples:
Ralphi “Rockin” Rosario
Kenny “Jammin” JasonIt was over the late 90s that we saw the hip-hop styled “stage names” vanish and people just used more “normal” sounding names…even if they were not their actual names.
I honestly never thought of any other names to use.
December 10, 2011 at 6:16 am #11175DJ Stone Crazy
ParticipantWhen I was younger, folks always remarked about my off-the-wall comments. “Did you hear what he said? He’s crazy.” Thus was born Stone Crazy. I used that name on MySpace. When I first started out, I didn’t have a DJ name. Then when the bar owner asked my name for advertisement purposes, I put DJ in front of Stone Crazy.

ParticipantI actually think most DJ names are lame and usually way over the top. “Magic Mike” “Mixmaster Mike” “Mad Mike”
I’ve always DJed under my real name, but now I want to have a bit of anonymity as a DJ. Suggestions/help welcome.
In LA my alter-ego was “shabazzz!” But that was just a goof on empty showbiz hype between friends. And there’s no way I could do a respectable set with that name, and most people were wondering why I chose a Muslim name.
Maybe I’ll ask my girlfriend for a clever pun in Chinese? Or use some weird animation term? DJ Keyframe, DJ Render, DJ Subsurface Scattering? Ugh! Maybe cos I’m older something with Silver or Grey in the title? My last name is boring, too. Stumped.

MemberGreat topic!
I don’t like the prefix “DJ” in DJ names, it sounds ordinary and too 90’s techno for me. If I look at house music albums from, for example, Hed Kandi and Defected in the House, I see names like Ghosts of Venice, Tensnake, Treasure Fingers, etc. Realy cool dj names.
Further, there are some realy cool dj’s and producers out there who just use their own name: Russ Chimes, Carl Hanaghan, Patrick Wagenaar, Gregor Salto and Fred Falke to name just a few. I would recomend anyone who has a cool name of their own to just use that.
My real first name is Caspar. But I used my second name “José ” in my dj name. José is cool latin like and it is realy something of myself as it is my second name. “Reach” came from “reach to the stars”, from a pose I take with friends when partying (with one knee on the ground and stretched arms and face pointing to stars, as a joke) , and as a sign of my ambition. => José Reach.
Maybe I’ll change it later in a new name. Maybe I just go back to Caspar. But that I will see in the future.

December 11, 2011 at 4:17 pm #11254Killa Saintlouis
MemberGirlfriend introduced me to an online game, called second life. You create a character, like an alter ego, and play. She had her own property with a club and got me to stream on her site. Thought it was cool. The characters have names. My characters name was Killa Saintlouis. So I figured Dj’ing is an alter ego (have a real job in the real world, lol) so why not use the same alter ego name. Some friends states they didn’t get it, and recommended I keep looking. What do you think?
Also, I didn’t bother with the DJ title because the title stands for disc jockey. I don’t use discs anymore (who does?). I use only controllers.

ParticipantI liked how one guy Phil interviewed changed the acronym to “Digital Jockey”.
December 11, 2011 at 8:07 pm #11266Deathray

Participantdj izn!! izn is my first name 😀 pronounced like “isn’t” but without the t. i think it serves well as a dj name, although a lot of people who don’t know me personally think that the letters are pronounced individually.
peeps who’ve only listened to my mixes online and come out to my gigs sometimes come up to me saying “hey your dj “eye-zed-en” right?!” which is the only downside of my name :pDecember 12, 2011 at 2:11 am #1002371Dayvue
MemberMy middle name is David, and last name is Yue. So I wrote out my full name and switched around letters until I got something that 1). sounded good 2). Was easy for others to figure out how to pronounce (“DAY-view”) 3). Looks good
David Yue
Dave Yue
Dav Yue
Davyue
DayvueAlso, just a random question: do any Spanish-speakers here have any idea how to make this name pronounceable in Spanish? The closest I’ve come is “Dé-vu,” but I feel like gente van a decir “de-bu” since v’s can said like b’s…
December 15, 2011 at 3:18 am #11441SmiTTTen
ParticipantMine came from an old London Acid Techno label from the 90s. At the time I went under a different name but used SmiTTTen as an IRC alias(among other things). Since getting back into things I decided that SmiTTTen was a name that I had used consistently for 15+ years so decided to make it my name.
January 22, 2012 at 11:21 pm #13177Dj Neonglass
ParticipantMy Dj name comes from my profession; neonglassblower & electric signmaker.

MemberI don’t feel like truly a DJ, so I dont need a name or call myself one. Just cause you have gear and you can mix doesn’t make you a DJ. When I am really good, maybe ill choose it then.
