“Big Daddy G”
MemberYour putting the cart before the horse, your peers will “give” you your Dj name. But you need to get out, everywhere you can, and see what’s up and introduce yourself(not your persona). The bedroom is FOR SLEEP! Dj’s move into the Living room at my house. (I have a ns-7 , studio Mon.’s, Kaosilater Pro and Computer sitting on the coffee table, (kids set-up)

ParticipantHey man, thanks for the reply. I hear what your saying. Its important for me to make myself different in some way though. Alot of the local dj’s in my area all play the same kinda music as me. Trance, House, Electro and Techno and i feel i need to set myself apart from them somehow, even if its just a name. Im nothing special at the minute cuz i aint been playing long but i know i can be over time.
Your right though about getting out there, only so much you can learn at home.ps. id love to play in my living room but i have to keep my better half happy 🙂

KeymasterDeco Del Rey sounds cool to me and is something totally different.
The others just sound like the usual DJ anagrams which is not my style. Also not putting DJ in front of your DJ name is “the cool thing to do” these days. (Thankfully I did that …. I was a rebel at my time hehe)January 24, 2013 at 11:01 am #35593Bojaq
ParticipantHaHa, yea some of my friends prefer Deco Del Rey. i think il stick with that. Thanks Terry

MemberIt took me quite a while to settle on a DJ name myself.. it’s a HUGE decision in my opinion! The key points to remember are:
1. It is easy to say? Try to avoid long names with too many syllables.
2. Can you remember it easy? Remember you want people to walk away from your gig and telling your friends that DJ “XX” was amazing.. and not… “Oh yeah.. that one guy who closed the night was awesome”
3. Think marketing as well. How will it look on an E-flyer or what images can you associate with your name that would be a cool logo?
4. Keep it non-music specific! You don’t want your DJ name to be something like “DJ 100% DubStep” and then you DJ at a Trance gig.. and people will think “umm..that is odd considering his DJ name”For me I choose my name because I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic since I was 8… so have always been around medical stuff. I love the red cross logo and it is quite marketable! I throw on a red cross hat and people will automatically know who is up at the decks (plus I like to throw some ambulance/ hospital sounds throughout my mix). Of course I’m no expert by any means and these are just my opinions.. but I hope I was able to help!

MemberI didn’t necessarily name myself like that. My DJ name is DJ Skittles. Skittles was my nickname in high school because nobody could say my last name (Ricklefs). So, it only fit that I slap on DJ at the front, because people already knew me as “Skittles”

ParticipantSkittles is an awesome name man. Del rey for me or mainly from my friends is because i dont look like your typical irish guy, more of a mediterranean look about me so hopefully it fits well. If i had chosen my nickname i dont think i would get tyoo many gigs if any at all lol

MemberI think using an already known nickname is perfect! You already have a known handle amongst friends who can easily get on board with helping you spread your name around! I never went by a nickname myslef so I had to start one from scratch, haha!

ParticipantEsentially it seems to be that Nicknames= DJ Names lately,so yeah safest route,it’s how i got mine.Always wore a black neckerchief around my neck, still do,people called me black rag so i stuck with it.The sad fact that i was treated like a rag as a kid by others adding to the names deepness.
