    Pranse is interesting.

    Define your sound and style.

    What’s your first name?

What kind of image do you want to portray?

Guys use youtube if you want to get your name on hit-list. Really it will help you to gain subscribers and listeners who always want to listen your mixes. Also try social networking like facebook , twitter , etc.

It honestly sounds like you are a pop/mainstream DJ. That’s not a bad thing though. I take it that you’ll be trying for and playing the usual kinds of clubs.

Pranse can work. Market it along the lines of “artist” or “artsy”, exotic, etc. If you’re more shooting for the rave scene, then I don’t know. If you’re shooting for the underground or “global” scene thing, then perhaps take a first name and use Pranse as the last name. Eddie Pranse, David Pranse, etc.

I don’t know man, my immediate reaction was to think ‘prance’ which, to me as a non-native english speaker anyways, brings up connotations of being silly and/or arrogant, i.e. prancing around. Merriam-Webster defines ‘prance’ as

    1. to spring from the hind legs or move by so doing
    2. to ride on a prancing horse
    3. to walk or move in a spirited manner: strut; also: to dance about

    But maybe that’s just me, I don’t know 🙂

Some here basically, as pointed out by the others, it sounds too much like prance/prancing. If you wanted to use it, you could balanced it out by using something silly. Possibly with something that people can relate to/poke fun of like The Lonely Desert Prancer or Pranse Hammam. Or use something that brings in something from your own language, making it into an oxymoron like a fearless coward or a leader without people. (Just some random ideas.) If I recall correctly, the French language also has a large presence in Moroccan society, why not use that.

My name was inspired by the Balkans, after wanting a Yugoslavian sounding name for a gaming profile. I thought it was random and original, until I recently learned that it also means small penis in Russian…and also a real Slavic last name, all while being Dutch :p

Some of the biggest, most widely known DJs have used their real names and the Dutch DnB/Dubstep act Noisia came up with their name after seeing a video tape upside down with VISION written on it.

In the end, to me, the name should primarily come from within you.
You summed up a few of your principles/ideas already. What I always do is go over that list and think of words that “grab” that idea. The strongest marketing is when it’s something that’s you, that embodies what you’re trying to be and say. Don’t limit yourself by only using the English language. Don’t hang yourself up on the actual name, it’s just a name. If you feel that Pranse doesn’t do you justice, then don’t use it, let it go for now, in the meanwhile ponder a bit about what you want your name to “say” and just throw some words around and go from there.

I know it’s hard, but I hope it helps.

I often wonder why people ask other people for validate or suggest a name (DJ or otherwise). Part of being an artist is to have your own identity that is chosen by you, for you. You could have 1000 people tell you to be DJ X but it’s meaningless, it’s not “yours”. Don’t go by something that is given to you, go by something that is true to you. One other thing to consider, the more you ask people to guide you in your creative decisions, the more you are telling the world that you don’t know how to make a creative decision – not good for your long term credibility. Better to make a bad decision than have someone make a good decision for you.

Being an artist is putting your work out there and taking the good with the bad. I write as part of my day job and I write as part of my love for world of music, production and Djing. I have written articles that people have ripped to pieces. I have been called all sorts of name, been told I am a clueless f***, a totally untalented and a wholly unprofessional writer (btw i don’t consider my forum posts to be in anyway profession). i continue to write and put work out there and I continue to drop mixes when time permits – it’s what you do.

This opinion is not exclusively aimed at you – you seem like a totally decent bloke which is why I am taking the time to write this (sorry Phil). I just want people to figure out things for themselves and build their own identity as it’s the only way this industry will evolve.

    Good luck!

I Respect your perspective , i asked for suggestions because in my entire part of my creative life i always figure out my ways alone , but making a name was like Battling someone 4 times my size , but with your advice i think now of hitting this in the balls with strongest power i have 😀 ( what !? he’s 4 times my size hhhhhhh )
    Thanx SmiTTTen

If someone can make a name for themselves with “Funtcase” – you can be successful with whatever works for you. Knock ’em dead!
