Bet there’s not many Nate Manfreds out there – why not stick with that?

Funny thing after I said all that I found a cool name from the past. KaeSKah. It actually comes from a book series from when I was a kid called casca. I just spelled it like how you would pronounce it. Read a good article on how not to use names like beats, spin, trax, etc. And when you look at the top djs names you don’t see silly names, they are just names. They don’t have to be your real name, but they shouldn’t be silly either. And you don’t have to put dj in front of it either. My name when I djing in the 90’s was nightmare lol. Those were the days mixing children’s story into this is how we do it lol. Well hopefully this rebirth goes well.

I think in many cases, the “DJ name” thing is falling by the wayside unless you have a name that just doesn’t ring nicely on flyers.

My real name is Alex Moschopoulos. Imagine trying to put that on a flyer. “D-Jam” is the name my friends gave me back in 1992 and I just stayed with it.

Others actually will just make “normal sounding names”. Junior Vasquez is a prime example, since his real name is Donald Paul Mattern. Paul Van Dyk’s real name is Matthias Paul.

Some just go for the abstract, like Skrillex or Fatboy Slim. I only suggest many DJs to go on a domain name service and find a web address for whatever DJ name you choose. I also wouldn’t worry if some guy out there has the same name. Judge it by how “big” that guy is. When DJ AM popped up in the spotlight, I didn’t worry…because he and I were two separate entities and different kinds of DJs. Plus I was already moving my way back into the bedroom while he was blowing up.

Use what feels good to you, but make sure it has a nice ring to it, can be easily spelled, and you can get a web address for it. Also reserve the twitter name on that too.

I chose my DJ name from the things in my life that I love and that have helped shape who I am. DJ Whocca is partially from Doctor Who, and my nickname as a child, Pooka (from the film Harvey). Plus it sounds like Hookah witch is one thing I also love. So I created my own name from strong influences in my life, as well as things I generally like.

    Off topic: I LOOOVE hookah.

On topic: My name was formed from a significant part of my profession. Occupational therapists focus on rehabilitation of someone’s daily function, so we’re striving to make them “functional”. I decided to abbreviate “function” and shorten the “al” to “-L”, thus where Fxn-L came from.

    Hey there, D-Jam…..Moschopoylos….sensing Greek roots?
Those advices are definitely well thought out!

I started producing some 10 years ago using only software, so I thought of naming myself “Softcore”…..It didn’t occur to me that it would give me a litle bit of trouble when trying to register on various websites which have chosen to ban this word (usually because it defines a specific category of porn)…Too late for that now, I guess! It did give me a lot of random visits on my website though! lol

I still wonder what Beatport would think of an LP named “Audioporn” – imagine that….. “Softcore – Audioporn” :p

Sounds intriguing enough, I’d give it a listen!
