    Paul Oakenfold was Offering a DJ Course Online in 2010 for 35,000 English Pounds :eek:;
    But; to answer your Question More Respectfully; Unfortunately ‘Nobody’ will Tell You Everything ‘They Know’ through Fear of you ‘Taking Their Job’ in the Future;
    I also think it would be a Wonderful thing to have a Person Teach You ‘What They Know’ (or are Willing To Share); and I Believe there are probably people out there who ‘Believe’ They Have The Skills and Will Happily Charge you;
    But the Truth is; when I bought my CDDJ Decks I didn’t even know ‘How To Operate’ them; but I knew from listening to DJ’s on the Radio that these ‘Hero’s’ of mine got from One CD to another CD ‘Some How’; and I had to do the Same (Some How); and it Literally was ‘Trial and Error’
    At that time; if there was YouTube I didn’t know anything about it; so had no Reference Point Visually to Follow;
    The Main thing I Learned from the Radio was the 1:2:3:4 of the Kick Drums had to Line Up (Somehow :));

    But; I am Happy to Teach Anyone Anything (apart from ‘The Secrets’) about DJ’ing; but of course as I mentioned earlier; I can Only Teach ‘What I Know’; and another person would Teach You ‘What They Know’;

    On my YouTube Channel I have built up Playlists containing Hundreds of Videos about DJ’ing; and I am Always Adding to these Playlists (they are Public Playlists); however; we can Never Know Enough; and I only Learned the Potential of an Auto Filter Two Weeks Ago; and I have been DJ’ing for 10 Years;

    The Whole Point of this Rambling Reply that isn’t really going Anywhere;
    Is that ‘The Most Important’ thing is for you to get from One Track to Another Track; and Once you have done that; you Practice with a Different Track; But; Always (in the Beginning) use Tracks with the Same BPM; and if Possible; within the Same Genre; and then; Once You have Built Some Confidence in Yourself and Your Abilities; you start Twiddling With Knobs to see not only ‘What They Do; but ‘If’ the Knobs can Improve Your Performance :);
    One Major thing with DJ’ing that I have Learned is that ‘Our Personal Learning Curve Cannot Be ‘Rushed’ 😎
    Whatever Software or Hardware you Choose to Use; I can Guarantee to you that DJ’ing is the Same :);

    You shouldn’t be worried about divulging secrets. What separates you from the padawan is your talent and experience. They can’t steal that! 🙂

    EDIT: These days, Oakey should be paying *me* £35k for DJing lessons!

    ^^^^^^ That there..

    Great reply Emma, but for me:

    How ‘You’; and ‘Any Man/Woman ‘Becomes’ a DJ is when they say;
    ‘That is a Cool Transition There; But Listen To How Much Better ‘I’ Feel It Sounds When You Do It This Way

    Would read: “But listen to how i do that differently”…. (Unless of course the guy pulled of a total trainwreck and you could show a better way! :lol

    I dont believe there are “wrong” or “right” ways to do anything in life, just ways that work or dont, and if different ways and styles do work and get excellent results then vive la difference!

    An online course will teach you as much for less money. I’ve seen some DJs schools here in France where these tutors teach fresh, impressionable youngsters who recently saw David Guetta on TV and are all excitable because they want to be him.

    But they don’t teach these young guys anything about DJ intuition and reading a crowd and THIS is what separates the wheat from the chaff. Give anyone a DJ who can read the crowd but mixes badly over a DJ who can mix perfectly but can’t read a crowd.

    And who are these tutors anyway? No one knows them. For all we know, they could be failed DJs who never knew how to understand people’s dancefloor reactions and would storm off when no one danced to their tunes.

    DJ lessons: expensive, questionable tutors, only teaches you technical skills.

    Online free/paid for learning or a DJ book: Cheaper, more effective and more worldly.

    I feel having a mentor would make the learning curve much easier. I am currently teaching a friend the basics of DJing and he definitely couldn’t comprehend cueing, pitch riding, nudging and such by just watching videos. I had to explain quite a few of the basics before he actually got it.

    Yes; this is Certainly Correct Adam;
    As I have yet to see a Video where the Camera is Operated by a ‘2nd’ person; as a DJ Teaches/Talks the Viewer through One Process At A Time; on YouTube (with the 10 Minute Limit – which has Actually Been Lifted for Some); it seems to be Speed Speed Speed; and as in a Classroom; if you ‘Miss A Bit’ the Tutor is not only ‘Hesitant’ to go Backwards; the Student is Often Fearful of asking a Question when ‘Others’ may Laugh just because He/She has not ‘Got It Yet’; so; a Mentor (if Available) can be a Marvelous thing;
    Unfortunately of course ‘Some’ don’t have Access to a Mentor; and ‘Somehow’ have to ‘Learn Their Trade’ Alone;
    It would be ‘Foolish’ of me to even Suggest which DJ would become More Successful (With or Without a Mentor);

    And that is why making DJ friends is a must 🙂 It might be the only way to find a real mentor.

    I am half-way through recording a beginners/basic video course to try and address some of these issues, it’s coming on well.

    Yeah, some DJs have the help of only themselves to learn the basics. or people like Ellaskins on Youtube. I’ve never been to a DJ class so I wouldn’t know if it is like a school classroom

    Wow. Definitely waiting for it Phil
