Thanks. Yeah I wandered around aimlessly online for about a month or two before I found this site and took Phil’s course.
Don’t get me wrong. My mixing is at the level it is right now (and still far from great) from fully intrenching myself in DJing. Countless hours discovering/preparing new music. Listening to (and more importantly watching) other people mix.
The three biggest pieces of advice I can give you are
1) Record everything you do so you can go back and criticize yourself
2) Play in front of other people
3) Watch youtube videos of other “beginners” mixing
*Things just start to click when you hear something you like and see what faders/knobs the performer is using to
make that happen…
I always reccomend that people start out on a cheap midi controller (Numark Mixtrack) or equivalent for two reasons
1) If you realize this isn’t for you … you don’t have a lot invested into it and its easy to resell a mixtrack
2) You will wish you had the extra money you invested in your $500 controller off the bat to put toward your $800
controller once you really know what you want to do and are ready to upgrade.
