That’s impossible to answer. It depends on how you personally like to learn, how much money you’ve got, how good that guy is! Check out this page if you’d like to know how some students have found our online course: http://www.digitaldjtips.com/testimonials, and I’d ask your guy to put you in touch with some of his ex-students so you can ask them how it was for them too.

Im a quick learner so either way i think ill be fine, i have around a 1000 dollars to spend overall out of which the course would be around 550$. Hes a smalltime DJ who spins at some local clubs occasionally and its a one on one class but he has really good reviews.

What gear does he play on? What gear do you have?

he has 2 cdj 800 mk2’s and a mixer and some other stuff
I have to buy some depending on how much money i have left over cause an online course is only 50$ and i think that Phil would make a great teacher cause he replies to every single thread of mine with logical answers and helps me make decisions. I was looking at a Numark N4 and a Novation Launchpad

I highly recommend the course by Phil.
I took the course about 6 months ago and you can check out my facebook to the level my mixes are at already.

Also, paying $550 for a course to “watch” somebody DJ on CDJs and then saving up to go get a controller and apply it is not going to work. Phils course is not software/controller specific so pick up the N4 or anything else that catches your eyes, put your hands on every single wheel/knob/button and don’t look back…

Thanks. Yeah I wandered around aimlessly online for about a month or two before I found this site and took Phil’s course.
Don’t get me wrong. My mixing is at the level it is right now (and still far from great) from fully intrenching myself in DJing. Countless hours discovering/preparing new music. Listening to (and more importantly watching) other people mix.

The three biggest pieces of advice I can give you are
    1) Record everything you do so you can go back and criticize yourself
    2) Play in front of other people
    3) Watch youtube videos of other “beginners” mixing
*Things just start to click when you hear something you like and see what faders/knobs the performer is using to
    make that happen…

I always reccomend that people start out on a cheap midi controller (Numark Mixtrack) or equivalent for two reasons
    1) If you realize this isn’t for you … you don’t have a lot invested into it and its easy to resell a mixtrack
    2) You will wish you had the extra money you invested in your $500 controller off the bat to put toward your $800
controller once you really know what you want to do and are ready to upgrade.
