Hi, and welcome to the forum – go to the introduction section and make an introduction post πŸ™‚

You should explore the forum and use the search function for this πŸ™‚ I believe this topic has been covered quite well in previous posts.

DDJT has an extensive list of test, reviews and walkthroughs on most of the up to date controllers. Have a look at http://www.digitaldjtips.com/dj-controllers-gear-buyers-guide-2016/. You’ll also notice that there are both written- and video reviews of most of the units.

Quite a few units give you a full ready system without the need for a laptop, so it usually comes down to features and knobs you’d find most fitting for your style and workflow.

Best of luck, and keep us updated πŸ™‚

I guess your current options for standalone unit (if you dont want mixer+players) are Pioneer XDJ-RX and Denon MCX8000. I don’t think there are currently any other available on the market?

There seems to be a perception that these controller units are just for beginners/entry level DJ’s, the pros use freestanding CDJs and mixer?

You won’t find many people here supporting THAT notion. Most of us at the very least accept that you can do more with even an entry level controller/laptop combo than you can with two media-players and a mixer. Some are more outspoken and consider a CDJ/DJM combo to be past technology πŸ˜€

Go ask the guys at Ministry or Pacha… they expect you to bring a controller now and CDJs are there just for backup.

So yes a laptop controller is the way to go these days. But since this topic has been beaten to death…
