    I’m no expert but, as a VDJ user, I was told that VDJ 7 didn’t have as good a sound engine as some other software. I can’t say that I ever noticed it myself. VDJ 8 is a free upgrade and has an improved sound engine, according to the spec sheet. Try that out

    thx salim for your quick respond

    so i can understand from you that the software is responsible for the sound quality not the controller soundcard

    Again not being as expert, I believe the Software has some bearing on the sound quality, The controller will too. The laptop, not so much as you are by-passing the lasptop’s soundcard by using the Controller and utilising the Controllers Sound output. I use a Denon MC6000 Mk2 and the blurb for that staes better sound output than the Mk1

    Hope that helps a bit

    The influence of software is only becoming an issue if you do lots of processing (FX, EQ-ing, big BPM changes and such).
    Yes the soundcard in your controller makes a difference, but a 16-bit/44.1KHz (CD-quality) soundcard from a good brand can sound better than a 24-bit/96KHz one from a lesser brand. Having said that, as we are the business of providing high volume level music from highly mastered (and compressed) sources (and more often than not from lossy formats like MP3/AAC), played over club/venue/rental PA-gear, it’s my personal belief that any decent controller from any serious brand has a CD-quality or better soundcard that will be more than sufficient for the purpose.

    I owned and used the MC6000mk1 for 2 1/2 years and NEVER had any reason to worry about it’s soundcard. The mk2 has indeed got a 24-bit soundcard and might (in lab situations) sound better than it’s 16-bit older brother, but I doubt there is any clubgoer that will hear the difference at 103dB in a noisy danceroom.

    DJ Vintage. I agree, I can’t tell the difference in sound output from the Denon Mk1 to the Mk2, only that they both sound good to me. Equally so with VDJ7 and VDJ8.

    Actually no, VDJ 7 did sound considerably worse than Serato if you would activate any effect or use software EQs. The whole effects processing and EQing engine was really bad, where as Serato DJ moved to iZotope which are known for their excellent studio quality effects and processing engines.
    Now VDJ 8 is a total rewrite, so it should fair better in that regard, but honestly I have not tested it recently.

    Yeah, processing sound is where your sound engine (in this case your DJ software) can go haywire.

    From my experience when it comes to the sound quality
    Vdj8 > Vdj7
    Serato Dj > Vdj7
    Vdj8 = Serato Dj
    I own both softwares, and still have vdj 7.4 all I can say is I really happy with 8 and Serato dj.
    And yes Serato dj does sound better than vdj 7.4 to the professional ear, it’s not like your dance crowd will notice.
