ParticipantYou forgot the most important bit of info. What you’re going to do with it. Four to the floor 128 bpm EDM can be done with anything (keyboard, mouse, sync, done!), but if you’re looking to scratch or actually mix difficult styles like hiphop you need something else.

ParticipantAs a beginner, I don’t think I will be scratching anytime soon. Will stick to the basics and beat matching with EDM and Bollywood music.

ModeratorDid he not say wedding? So, why wonder about scratching or four to the floor 128? It’s safe to say that he will playing everything and anything, be using the mic a lot (preferably have a second mic channel for speeches and such).
Since the budget seems rather broad (from DDJ-SB and MC2000 to DDJ-SX/SR), I think you should contemplate the ultimate mobile DJ controller imho, the Denon MC6000. It now comes with full Serato. It’s a 4-channel standalone mixer as well. Has an improved soundcard (and the old one wasn’t shabby to begin with). In addition it has 2 full mic channels with tone control/EQ and even reverb (in case someone wants to sing to the wedding couple). And it’s build like the proverbial Denon tank.

ParticipantThanks for clarifying DJ Vintage. Yes, I want to get into mobile DJing for weddings which will include using couple of mics.
I did not look at the Denon MC6000 because in the Controller guide it was listed under Virtual DJ. However, I see that Denon DJ MC6000MK2 is supported by Serato as well so I will look into it. Appreciate the suggestion!

ModeratorYou are welcome. Good luck with your choice!
As Phil said in a webinar the other night “we are having a bit of 1st world problems”. We have a bit of a hard time deciding between a new Suzuki Swift, an Audi A4 or a BMW 5-series. And while they all are different and nobody will deny that a 5-series isn’t the better car, all three will get you to your destination surrounded by plenty of luxury and comfort in a dependable manner.
The same is true for DJ-ing these days. Almost any controller will get the work done. For some you need to do some extra work yourself (extend mappings for example), others require a bit of flexibility where workflow is concerned and the high end models might have features you aren’t ready for to use.
One of our readers has mapped the heck out of a 75 dollar Hercules controller. And while there is all kinds of stuff you might want better, he proves that with a little imagination, determination and input you can make just about anything work.
And he plays a weekly 1-hour friday afternoon set at his work with it!
So, again good luck with your choice. Know that whatever you choose from that list will adequate for the job at hand. Some just slightly more than others. This depends a lot on personal wishes and taste too.

ParticipantHell I do lots of weddings with a simple Denon MC2000, a separate PA-mixer and a couple of wireless mics (and a separete karaoke set up of a laptop and a screen if requested). In weddings its more about the tracks you play, than your mixing skills.
BUT
Upgrading to MC6000Mk2 as soon as I get the funds for it, so I can pitch the mixer 🙂

A Wedding DJ armed with only a laptop ? that would look incredibly silly and unprofessional in the eyes of the clients

ParticipantThanks everyone! I did a little bit of research on the MC6000MK2 online and will check it out in the store this weekend. So far I like what I am reading and hearing from you guys!

ParticipantHi all, one more question on this before I pull the trigger on the MC6000Mk2. As you all know, MC6000Mk2 doesn’t have performance pads. Are these required for a mobile wedding DJ or is this a personal preference? Cheers!

ModeratorI actually think on the mk2 the hot cue buttons can (with one press of a button) be switched to sample buttons. And with the shift button this means you have a total of 8 sample buttons. Whether you need them as a wedding DJ I can’t tell. But I personally don’t use sample buttons, let alone slicers or such.
I’d say you can do very well without them. I AM in the process of making a few samples though (like happy birthday and such lol). The sample buttons on the MC6000 would be plenty for me to trigger those. I am not planning on any fingerdrumming or live remixing or such.

KeymasterIf you ever need additional Serato control you can always add a reloop Neon and have it all.
I second that the MC6000 Mk II is the ultimate mobile DJ controller if you are always on the road and have to use mics a lot.

ParticipantVCI-380…
I have owned a Numark NS6, Novation Twitch, Numark Mixtrack Pro II, Pioneer DDJ-SX and this is my favorite controller to date.

ModeratorIt has the mic level button on the back and only one mic input. I’d say that makes it less than suitable for mobile work (especially weddings), unless you are willing to add another piece of equipment (small PA mixer) to your setup. Which is possible, but means extra gear, extra cables, extra space needed and extra setup time.
Just my opinion of course.

ParticipantI really appreciate all the comments. I am going to purchase the MC6000MK2 from Guitar Center in the U.S. this weekend for $699. Should I pay additional $100 and get the extended warranty on this controller from Guitar Center? Denon has the standard 1 year parts and labor warranty.
