ModeratorPersonally I think you don’t need the DI box, but they used one in this case to use the ground lift it has.
I think something like this: http://artproaudio.com/artcessories/audio_solutions/product/dti/ is much more versatile for a DJ. All inputs (both balanced and unbalanced – XLR, Jack and RCA) and outputs (the same) and totally galvanic separation. And it’s passive, so no external power source needed.

ParticipantDJ Vintage, thank you so much once again for your advice. This looks like a great solution.
I really want to be prepared in case this problem comes up again. My sense is it had to do with the electrical current in the outdoor-wall in the building outside of which the performance took place or something like that because I had never faced this problem before in over 2 years-worth of mobile DJing.
BTW, hopefully I’ll find again that other thread on distortion that I started last November so I can post my theory of what happened. (Hint: not using PN.)
Peace.

ParticipantART? NOOOOO! That is some cheap schwag stuff that will make everything going through it sound like Mudd!
1st)If you gonna run that SX2 into a mixer and do not want Ground issues you’ve gotta have a DI.
2nd) If your power is dirty coming in the DI won’t mater none, as dirty power will cause all bunch of noise and bad mama jamma.
Do you have a power conditioner? If not get one. Cheapest one I’d go with is this..http://www.amazon.com/Furman-Advanced-Conditioning-Voltmeter-Isolated/dp/B001JJB2GM/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1431414495&sr=1-2&keywords=Furman+pl+plus+dmc
3rd) Since you are running a stereo setup(Just one SX2?) you will need a stereo DI(or 2 mono DI’s) and the cheapest one with the best sound will be this….http://www.amazon.com/Radial-JDI-Duplex-Stereo-Direct/dp/B0002GIRM0
4rth) If you’ve already bought that ART either do 1 of 2 things. Return it! Or toss it. It’s that bad. It’s like comparing your SX2 to a BEHRINGER CMD STUDIO 4a!Remember that whatever comes out of your controller will pass through the DI. So if you chince out on the DI it’s gonna make your stuff sound bad!

ModeratorHi Shaker,
Would you mind stating things as your opinion, not as fact! See the posting guidelines.
Second, I don’t agree with your assesment of ART. Actually I think it is bogus. Having been a sound engineer as well for years and having tested loads of stuff, ART definitely does NOT qualify as “cheap schwag”. While it is true that their prices are reasonable and they have had some stuff (mostly cheap tube preamps) that I wasn’t too fond of (more because of build quality issues than sound coloration btw), in general they makes some pretty handy tools for the emergency kit.
I’d like to point out that our friends of Sound On Sound (a reputable pro audio magazine) had this to say about the unit:
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug05/articles/studioessentials.htm
Also, as stated in the OP, the problem was used by adding a DI, not because of it’s DI capabilities, but for it’s ground lift option. Now, I don’t know much about the power grid in whatever country you are in (unless you are in Holland too), but I do know that if ground lift solves a problem, no power conditioner would have been helpful.

ParticipantGuys, thanks for the additional commentary.
Yes, in the case I had that prompted my OP, the issue was resolve with only a ground lift through a DI.
For the record, I’m the U.S., so the power is 110. The outlet was on the outside wall of a building. The building is from the 1950s, at least, though it was renovated in the early 1990s. I add this because me sense is that the problem had to do with the current on that building not being properly grounded, even if it was a three-pronged outlet.
Further, I’ve connected my DDJ-SX to various mixers used by different companies that have provided the professional audio rigs for most of the events I’ve done, and in none of those previous cases did I run into any grounding issues. All gigs were in other buildings. In other cases I’ve simply connected the DDJ-SX to QSC powered speakers, either K10s of KW122s (with either K-Sub or a KW-181 subs). In none of these single-man gigs did I run into any grounding problems and this have been in a wide variety of buildings, from modern ones to some built in the 1910s to 1930s, for example.
Besides Vintage’s recommendation of that ART DI, someone recommended I buy a portable conditioner-cum-power strip, which I did. I already use a power conditioner box at home to protect my gear.
Here’s the power conditioner+strip I got. It was highly recommended by a pro audio company guy:
I’m still planning to get the DI.
