    Its a pain in the ass and they take traffic away from the forums and blogs in my experience..

    It’s easier for me to pop into a forum than to sit in a chat room.

    Ditto the above. I never chat—I’m usually working on multiple projects when I drop in here, and chatting is too demanding on my time. I know some folks love chats and IM, but I find the board and blog to be perfect for my needs.
