It’s also worth mentioning that the Denon MC6000 could easily contend with these controllers, and definitely crushes the DDJ T1, but I didn’t have a chance to check it out at Guitar Center. So for those who are considering an upgrade to any of the other 3 controllers should definitely take a look at the MC6000 as well. Even though the layout looks a bit cramped, it still has a TON to offer.

The build quality of the DDJ T1 seemed more “plasticky” than the S4, DM-6000, and NS-6

totally agree. And it’s feels really oversized. I do appreciate the space between all the controls, but the controller itself was huge! Not saying ht NS6 is that small, but it doesn’t seem to take up as much realestate. It could be the rounding on the edges of the controller and the size of the platters that make it seem so large.

The Pio is way too overpriced.. For me it would be an easy decision since I am a Traktor user.. in the end it comes down to what software you use (in this case).

Yea it is definitely overpriced. Pioneer fans can only hope that they get it right with their next wave of controllers. That is, if they even plan on continuing in that direction. I’d definitely consider Pioneer again if they put out another controller or two and lowered their prices.

Yea the Master Edition isn’t bad. Though I’ve seen issues with the jogs in a few video reviews online. Also, it comes with an LE edition of Traktor, so those wanting to mix with 4 decks will have to pay for an upgrade, whereas these 3 controllers offer 4 deck control out of the box.

Btw the NS6 also has LEDs for the effects.

There’s an HID mapping coming for Reloop’s jogs according to the manufacturer that should fix the jog issue – which isn’t as bad as has been made out elsewhere.

Tell you what, I went with the Pioneer and am absolutely delighted with it. Coming from a vinyl background I think this unit wins in recreating that feel of spinning vinyl. It’s not plasticky at all, feels very solid in use, in fact I found most other controllers far more ‘Fisher Price’ . I can see why people who want to mess about with the music would prefer the S4, but I just want a replacement to my Technics set up and I honestly don’t see why I would want to mess around / mess up a piece of music that someone has spent a long time creating – but that’s another discussion entirely!;)

I just upgraded my VCI-300 with effects to a NS6 and couldn’t be happier. When I was shopping for a new controller about a month ago, I played with a few of the market players. Here’s why I made the choice I did.

    S4 vs NS6
Pros – Smaller footprint, Traktor has sampler module and slightly better effects
Cons – Plasticky feel, jog wheels are in the wrong place compared to pictch controls, cramped if you have big hands, no booth out, No strip search, can’t be used as a standalone mixer

    Pioneer DDJ T1 vs NS6
Pros – Familiar ergos if you are used to playing on CDJs, also has strip search
Cons – even bigger than the NS6, too expensive for what you get, feels plasticky, no booth out

    Denon MC6000 vs NS6
Pros – also built like a tank, video ready, priced right, booth out, also usable as a standalone mixer
Cons – really small and cramped feeling.

The biggest plus for the NS6 for me was the scratch response, it can be used as a standalone mixer and the fact that it has a booth out, which means it’s not confined to mobile gigs like my VCI-300. I’ve used it at a major nightclub gig and it performed flawlessly.
