MemberHe’s utterly and completely irrelevant to what I do. The only interesting part is watching people make claims about the “purity” of dance music, in comparison to pop.
Which is actually talking about the “purity” of non-commercial music in comparison to commercial music.
Which misses the point that the commercial nature of the music doesn’t actually make _any_ statement about the quality (and or purity) of that music …

MemberGuys, why all that hatin’ stuff?
Most of his work may not coincide with your taste but so what?
You could start an endless debate about Swedish House Mafia or even Daft Punk (Don’t you dare! 😉 ) as well, but admittedly, all of them brought, maybe only in a separating manner, the genre forward.Though, I have to agree, there seem to be better DJs (skill-wise) than Monsieur Guetta.
I heard the same discussion about “too mainstream, too commercial, too lame a dj” about the Disco Boys a few years ago,
but experiencing them first hand, they really busted the floor and set the club on fire – so they can’t be all that bad, and I think as long as David Guetta accomplishes the same, well, he’s gotta do something right!Contrary example, I don’t generally like what famous Laidback Luke produces or remixes – but his essential mix blew me off my chair.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like most of what D.G. produces, being, agreed, too much of the same lane driven again & again. But, for example, I like this

And it is not “typical” D.G., but closer to Daft Punk. Which is okay. And he don’t deserve hate for that. So I think we shouldn’t put any artist (and, of course, everybody we meet) into a certain category overhasty, because he may have aspects that might prove that category wrong.
Just my thoughts.

thats not the case. Its the fact that his only claim to fame in the states is being stuck making beats for shitty pop stars and rappers. In the states he’s not a dj, hes a fracking producer. So to me hes just stuck in shitty american edm. That and all his leads seem to consist of only 2 chords. :/

KeymasterFor me his skill is in taking existing pop hooks and sounds, and changing them just enough to make them his own while retaining “instant recognisability”. It may not be the most honourable talent in the world, but he’s very good at it.

MemberI think David Guetta is a smart man. He started out producing EDM no pop infused and I guess that was successful but I am not really sure, and to make really good money producing EDM you have to be like Deadmau5 which is very difficult to get to that stage. So he said hell with it these pop artist get all kinds of money if I infuse them into my music there audience/fan base will listen. So he did that with a couple different pop artist and landed him self several spots in the Top 40 charts. I am sure he is making very good money at this point.

MemberI can’t stand the guy, his music is all the same 130 bpm house beats with souless vocals and synth lines.. sure his music will rock a pop crowd and he’s crossed boundries yada yada yada but its not hard when you use massively popular pop stars like rhianna and usher.. ask any dj in a top 40 type scene and they will tell you that they gets requests for the “new” rihanna or usher with no reference to mr. guetta. so personally i think he sucks and is un-inspirering

For years, he was just a record player, he only recently learned how to produce music, correct?
Everyone is being played, and when i find him, i shall break his fingers.LukeAlive, post: 7302, member: 270 wrote: People tend to forget that some are in this game to make money and if they are going to do it by “commercializing” their music then why not? In any creative industry be it music or art or film, the watered down easy to understand in my comfort zone things sell. what gets me is that the so called “purist” or “real music lovers” hate on these people:rolleyes:
I believe it’s called jealousy. I guess it’s natural for us humans not to be happy with another mans success or glory. Sometimes we feel we are better than the other guy and we feel that we did not get the recognition we deserve. But most of the time we are just arrogant.
Well if this guy thinks he is better than Dave, then let him be. I believe that even if he will have paid gigs for the next 30 years, it will be nowhere near what David Guetta earns…. unless he becomes famous….. then we can start to trash talk him and also break his fingers.
So much hate in this world
I have to sign up just for this 😀

ParticipantCommercializing?!? WTF?!?
I think everybodys dream is to earn money with their passion. If he does what he likes and makes the music that he likes, I think everythings gonna be okay. And whats about urban? I think if you are popular and sucessful with your music, its very hard to stay “urban”.I like Guettas sounds. With his new album he really brings things forward for erveryone of us!
