MemberI’m not a fan of David Guetta to say it softly. I liked his older, more genuine, music.
Years ago, I realy liked the RnB scene of America. There were some commercial songs which were realy good.
They had great beats, great vocals, great rythm and a great melody. Plus they had often cool video clips with great dancing in it.
Now, everything looks like house music. Vocals are becoming autotuned, and no more than 1 or 2 sentences are said, and songs are all about partying. No feeling, no emotion, except of partying. Plus, artists like David Guetta recycle the same stuff over and over again. Their next songs look just like their older ones but slightly different, with a different featuring artist.
Chris Brown is no RnB anymore, Usher isn’t anymore, NeYo isn’t anymore, Jason Derulo isn’t anymore, and the list goes on.November 28, 2011 at 2:52 pm #10551Arbite

So much this. So sick of songs about drinking and bitches and ho’s and dancing and champagne showers and shuffling.
Just because it’s EDM, doesn’t mean it can’t be as moving as any other form of music.
Deadmau5’s Strobe and Triumph by Ivan Carsten come to mind.

MemberAlso, I want to add, I see an erosian of house music now House music has entered America’s top 40 scene.
Even in this thread, people are argueing wheter it should be called House or pop music.
House music is, thanks to David Guetta and others, very popular in America. What happened? In a very quick tempo it became popular because David Guetta did some featurings with some famous artists who didn’t need any skills to make a song popular.
Even the old classic house music songs, are under erosion. Just hand it over to Pitbull, some tweaks, and some bimbos, and voilà , you got a new popular song. For me, this is a prove of the power of commerce and media.
When DJing in a bar or club, it’s almost getting hard to find a song other than 128 BPM. All the artists who used to make RnB, reggaeton, Latin, pop and (pop)rock music, like Usher, Enrique Iglesias and Maroon 5 who used to have different beats have now housebeats which are very close to 128BPM.
I’m affraid that, as fast as house music became popular in the USA, as fast it will become in disgrace, hoping to be recycled again in 20 years like Disco music. There will come a time that people will get bored of it. I think that dubstep is already a reaction on it.November 29, 2011 at 6:15 am #10604mr_john
MemberDubstep is on the way out. But that doesn’t mean it will go away. Apparently Basshunter is making a dubstep song and if that doesn’t kill it, idk what will.
Deadmau5’s popularity is actually quite confusing to me. He has his songs that get played on the radio as singles and whatnot. But the majority of his stuff is not something I would think the mainstream would like. Repetitive, a little bit strange, not exactly what I would call “for the general public.” But what do I know…
As much as I don’t like hip house, I suppose I should be thankful for it as it gives me something I can at least sort of enjoy at clubs. David Guetta is better than regular old hip-hop any day.The new dubstep seems to be electro. I’m throwing my 5 bucks in the music trend pool behind it.

MemberI don’t like Guetta because it’s all crappy and generic EDM with crappy and generic vocals. It almost all sounds the same.

MemberYou really can’t blame Guetta. It’s all Citroens fault and that dancing robot car.

ParticipantSome of his later songs are way to silent long intros with no beats. but whenever I DJ and put on “Titanium” “Without you” or “Turn me on” original version girls fill the floor. Although I usually play a remix or add a beat. I don’t like his new songs that much, but I play them because I get payed to please the crowd.

to the people that matter? hem the people that buy music and the people on the dance floor don’t matter to you?
The only people that matter to me are the people coming to my gigs or turning up at the clubs I play. I’m there for them and not the other way around.February 2, 2012 at 9:01 pm #13986Paul Hill
