Member– David Guetta did NOT help EDM make it into the mainstream simply because what he produces is NOT EDM, its simply pop music.
– With only a few glaring exceptions pop music is crap generic music…so Guetta’s music sounds to me like crap.
– Advertising pop music as EDM music, misguides the audience, does not help the growth of EDM, and of course does not in any way “educate” the audience
– Using these wrong definitions of his music he has gained my disgust more than any true-to-themselves pop artists could ever do. To give an example, I respect artistically (and musically to be sincere) Madonna more than I could ever give a damn about GuettaNovember 15, 2011 at 9:12 am #9871U31
MemberI had this argument on another forum..

KeymasterThing is he’s very GOOD at taking all those elements and making pop music from them… if he was bad at it, he wouldn’t be popular

Member@Phil Morse: Alix, can you do me a mixtape of your influences please?
Funniest comment I’ve read all day Phil ! Ahhh just gotta love that cynical streak !
As for Guetta..I’ve really got mixed feelings about this guy; but at the end of the day
he’s succeeded in doing what he loves and making a shit load out of it so hats off to the guy.As for his mixing…I’m guessing this video is a fake surely ? If it’s not then he’s badly
in need of a “SYNC” button !

MemberI vote fake. The audio doesn’t sound the same at all. Sexy girl sounds live, the rest of it doesn’t.
I’d never pay to see the guy live. But I don’t hate him either. At the very least he recognized a way to bring EDM into the mainstream which I suppose I have to give him credit for. Even though I hate what it’s becoming. Isn’t that what Dj’s do? Mix popular songs? He just took that and ran with it.

ParticipantWhats there to hate?
Unless of course, your jealous of what hes accomplished?
I respect him as a musician, plain and simple as that. i dont like all his stuff, “sweat” and some of that other pop stuff with mainstream artists (ludacris, flo rida!!!, snoop etc). But theres alot I can get along with too.
You don’t get to be the #1 dj in the world without good reason imo

MemberHe’s a decent DJ, his stuff simply isn’t to my taste. I’d hardly say he’s worthy of the top 1 though, there are better DJ’s out there, mixing wise that is.
Anyway, I’m just keen to seen Van Buuren and Carl Cox in a few weeks.

MemberI’m not a Guetta fanboy to say the least, but then again I’ve been spoiled with dirty filthy NYC underground house for a bit now. I just cant stand it when people call him a house DJ. It’s more pop than anything. I also think its funny that he wants to “bridge the gap between black and white” House music catered to mostly blacks and hispanics when it was created! Call me bitter or whatever but his success has paved way for Will.I.am and Pauly D getting gigs at Pacha NYC, and that is NOT ok.

Ever since I moved to Europe about 3 years ago I’ve been suprised of how little people know about the history of house music. Becuase of it’s great popularity over here, as opposed to the low GENERAL interest in America at the time, I figured people would know more about it. People actually think House (in all of its forms, whatever your area calls it) was created here in Europe and not in Chicago/New York.
Anyway to get back on topic, let’s not forget the purpose of music. Whether its house, hip hop, salsa, bachatas, whatever the music is created to move people physically and emotionally. David Guetta’s music does that. If your music can cross international lines and inspire people all over the world, it doesn’t really matter if one or two people calls a ‘sellout’.November 24, 2011 at 1:21 am #10316eros
MemberHaving just watched the documentary / movie / bio thing the other night I guess I have a little bit more insight into his past now. One thing I particularly didn’t like about it was the over-use of his A-list celeb R&B / Rap mates telling us over and over AND OVER again about how great he is ! We got that message after the 12th time Kelly Rowland and Usher said it. Talk about mutual admiration society. The feeling I get is that most of them see this as just an “electronic phase”, the “hip thing to do at the moment”, do they really understand the culture and passion of the EMD community ? Just my two cents
