The annoying part is when you explain the difference, you get that dizzy face that denotes confusion

EDM has been “Techno” for as long as I can remember. At least since 90 or 91. You should see the looks I get when I tell non-EDM types that only Techno is techno. 😀

Well, the term EDM is notoriously new. I believe it was Mr. PvD who started saying that his music was EDM, and then everybody looked at that term. Although, I’m not sure if he was the one who coined the term.

Now coming back to the thread. Guetta, not only have open the ear of the North American, he also opened the ears of most of the American continent. If you take a look in Mexico, he won a Gold Record with his last album. So, taking this in cosideration, you may say that he is doing something good. He is spreading the EDM to the people, which is the best in all cases

Yeah – I can understand that maybe he’s not a master mixer but with him and deadmau5 I feel like there’s a lot of attention being put on DJs now and I’m glad. but I respect that he can throw one hell of a party and knows that going from C to G can bring a crowd up like no other!

He’s basically dance-infused pop though, isn’t he? He’s pop first and foremost. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but pop has always borrowed from purer genres. It’s a big melting pot – that’s what makes it transcend its influences I think. http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/08/crossover-dj-tunes/

I think what Guetta is doing is an absolute insult to anything electronic. He’s a pop star for gods sake. Four-to-the-floor doesn’t belong with urban music. Then he gives everyone the wrong idea about what dj’ing is and what good music is.
For years, he was just a record player, he only recently learned how to produce music, correct?
Everyone is being played, and when i find him, i shall break his fingers.

People tend to forget that some are in this game to make money and if they are going to do it by “commercializing” their music then why not? In any creative industry be it music or art or film, the watered down easy to understand in my comfort zone things sell. what gets me is that the so called “purist” or “real music lovers” hate on these people:rolleyes:

It aint ” other shit” to someone, tho, to them, our “good shit” is their “other shit”…
Just because we don’t happen to like it, doesn’t make it rubbish. Its just not to our tastes
Always bear that in mind.
Chart music will probably never be my cup of tea, but if the likes of Guetta can make a living out of what they are doing, good on ’em and long may it continue.
It aint harming me, i aint forced to listen, and i’m sure one or two of his tunes, suitably remixed have been span on the decks by me in the past

Thank God taste differs, or else it would be a pretty boring world!

“I hate what teens listen to. Pop music peaked at the exact moment when I was most emotionally vulnerable to trite love songs.” – SMBC

But seriously, I saw David Guetta live in Ibiza early this summer and it totally changed my opinion of him. I still think most of his songs follow the same formula too much for my taste, but he’s one of the least cynical DJs I’ve ever seen. All the guy wants to do is throw parties and have fun. All the power to him!

Also his accent just makes him adorable whenever he gets on the mic. He’s like a little kid!:

In my opinion David Guetta is a pretty cool cat. I have to say I give the guy credit because unlike some in the music industry, he actually cares about the music. Yeah so his stuff tends to be more mainstream. I think what he’s trying to do is what we’re all trying to do. Turn people on to a new style and have fun with music. I’m an 80’s New Wave and Rock aficionado and I want to bring my love of Yaz, The Cars, and Icehouse to the world (as well as newer stuff). So I give credit where credit is due. He’s an introduction to House music, and more power to him for broadening people’s musical tastes.

Alix, can you do me a mixtape of your influences please? (Only joking, but I’d love to hear it!)

EDM/House is all about the music for me… So if people will only listen to it because Usher or some other momo is on the track they shouldn’t call them selfs fans of House music. For instance when someone tells me they love house and i throw out names of a few djs and producers and they look at me sideways until i say Guetta or Afrojack
