    Maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but does he have to release an album right in the middle of DJ Mag Top 100 voting?

    It must be a wicked way to catch everybody’s attention.

    Now, talking about the way he produces music, well it is very interesting. Most of the times, Club DJs (I do not refer about popular-AvB-style ones) always find something bad in his songs. In my concept, they are what they are, commercial house cuts with a good vocal line. They are like entry level House songs, then you can go deep with, I don’t know, Maya Jane Coles (as an example) or something even “not commerical”

    The only thing I don’t really like about his compositions, is the way he overuses the vocals in an entire album. Although, there are some exceptions

    Thank You for the Video Ivy 🙂
    What A Dream It Was For Me To Actually See That David Morales Is Still Alive 😎 😎
    The Only Gripe I have towards David Guetta is that on MySpace; even though people such as Carl Cox; Green Velvet; Fat Boy Slim; and Sven Vath Accepted my Friend Request; David Guetta Wouldn’t; I got a message back saying ‘Unless’ you ‘Know David Guetta Personally’ he Will Not Accept Your Friend Request;
    I Understand that this is Everyone’s Perogative; but I didn’t take to him Too Kindly After That;
    I was Pleased to see him using Ableton in the Video;
    But I thought Placing Beats ‘Over’ Other People’s Tracks had become The Standard these days ?
    I am not sure Why the USA have a Challenge with EDM as they Basically Invented The House Scene; unless EDM is something Completely Different; which wouldn’t Surprise me really as the Types Of Music in the UK that are Classed as EDM can be Quite Ambiguous to the Extreme 🙂
    But; if David Guetta is Opening Up EDM to the USA; then Kudos to Him 😎

    Guetta wanted to find a way to make average Americans like dance music. He found it in making dance music with popstars and R&B acts.

    I won’t fault him. He went far as a DJ/producer, but wanted to be in the mainstream. He succeeded. Some hate him and call him a “sellout”, but much of what I hear on Top40 radio is this pop/dance hybrid. It’s now a big gateway drug for many to dive down deeper in the rabbit hole and see what else there is.

    no disrespect to his talents… I’m just not a fan of EDM going mainstream. But I suppose it’s inevitable at this point. House music is lost to the masses. 🙁 I think I liked it better when everything made by a dj was called “Techno” here in the states.

    I usually DJ at my school and the people there are really the mainstream/top40 type. If David Guetta does EDM (Which I love) and he’s mainstream then I have more than one reason to play it to my crowd 😀

    What Guetta does, he does well.

    I play to a crowd of 500-900 people every Friday and Saturday and doesn’t matter if it’s his older stuff like ‘Love is Gone’ or ‘Little Bad Girl’ when ever i drop a Guetta track it raises the roof.

    I’m not a fan of commercial music but i play it every weekend will admit he’s changed the scene quite a bit (in the UK anyways).

    I like his production stuff more than his actual DJ sets. That being said, yea he is considered the “mainstream” DJ but just like anything else that goes mainstream, if it catches your attention and has you jumping to a beat then he’s doing something right….and there are a lot of people jumping!

    I really like his music and I’ll admit he basically is making house music and the whole EDM scene closer and closer to the mainstream. And I agree with the fact that he is somewhat one of those artist that can bring you into a genre which has it’s pro and cons for EDM.

    DJs and EDM lovers are notorious for being hipsters. That is, it’s only cool if they’re the only ones that know about it. That just seems like elitism to me.
    David Guetta, Tiesto, Deadmau5, Daft Punk and other commercially successful DJ/producers didn’t get there without a little bit of talent and hard work, regardless of what you believe. It may not necessarily be musical or DJing skill, but marketing and business is key to becoming a mainstream success too. Sure there are better, more talented DJs out there. And eventually the big record label execs will latch onto a new genre to exploit (like dubstep) and we’ll have more DJs with questionable talent in the mainstream. I’m looking at you, Skrillex…

    For the record, there’s stuff I dig from every one above I named. And some stuff I really hate, too. Music is subjective. Love what you love, don’t what you don’t.

    It’s all cyclical. EDM gets popular for a year or two in the mainstream world, then it fizzles out.

    I’m sure in a year you’ll see college frat boys dissing anything EDM and demand hard rock or rap music, and girls will call it all “techno”.

    Too late, it’s already happened! I was the sound tech at a college talent night tonight, which featured lots of acoustic singer/songwriter types. Then the American exchange student who is on the judging panel says “you guys are good, not like that techno crap they play on the radio nowdays”!!!

    IT’S NOT TECHNO, IT’S EDM!!!

    In my country, everything that sound electric call it “Electro” and it tend to be confusing, because a Trance tune is “Electro”, as well a House tune.

    The annoying part is when you explain the difference, you get that dizzy face that denotes confusion :confused:
