ParticipantKanye West – Mercy (RL Grime Salva Remix). I love my Progressive House, but college demands hip-hop. I’ve dropped this all 3 nights this weekend at my frat house and people went bonkers

ParticipantThis is an oddball, but “Erotic City” by Prince. When I was DJing in the early 90’s, I would get the same number of requests for this 8 year old Prince B-Side as the top hits of the day. Imagine Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” getting as many requests as “Gangnam Style” does today. I never found a song with such strange durability. Maybe it only gets one or two requests these days. :p
As you might guess, I’m well past 19, 25 & 35!

NKA. Here’s my advise – play what girls want, but keep it ‘dirty’. Everyone knows that guys dont care whats playing so long as the ladies are on the floor. By ‘keep it dirty’ i mean lotss of heavy hip-hop. In my experience, college kids are anticipating hip-hop when they go to a house party. This means chart toppers like Wiz Kanye and Tyga, but also some stuff people may never have heard. As long as that bassline is still there, partygoers probably wont care what kind of lyrics it is.

ParticipantI forgot to mention “Trap music” which ALWAYS seems to be a winner. And you can’t forget those huge hits from your middleschool years. im talking “yeah” by usher and “get low” with lil john. they never fail 😉

MemberA few times, at the end of playing Cott’s Face by Feed me, I’ll drop into a little bit of Aerodynamic by Daftpunk. I usually do the solo over the outro, and then at the bell at the end, reverse it so it fades, then builds into another big drop. That aerodynamic riff gets a lot of people going.

I love shit like that, I spend hours on my numark just looking for songs that mix so well and blend together like that, the problem is that I have created so many pre made set lists, i guess I could mix them and record it and then play what the people want when I play live? Idk ha i just loving making mixtapes

hahaha yeah slicing in a few little bits and pieces like that are great for getting the crowd going! I did a couple of other ones too, like Zedd’s Don’t Slam The Door vs Daft Punk’s Technologic, which then runs into DeadmauFIVE and Wolfgang Gartner’s Animal Rights vs Azaeaeaealia Banks 212. Those two tracks one after the other work pretty well.
Not sure if it’d be any use to you Spot-Trix, but I have a little demo mix on soundcloud that has a couple of interesting mashup type tracks. If not for the mix, the list of tracks/mashups might be of use, although sounds like you’re not short of ideas yourself! :p

I’m American, so I like to spin a lot of electro-house 🙂
I like to bring down the levels pretty low, and slowly put in the part of the song where you here the heels clicking, banging on the door, cell phone ringing ect ect (about a minute in or so). I always get the “what the hell is this?” looks from the crowd, but its just slowly building them up. It gets louder and louder and louder until finally the women says “You Blocked Me on Facebook, and Now Your Going to Die!” and it drops. People go absolutely nuts.October 11, 2012 at 4:53 pm #1013402twicx
MemberTHIS!!! Plus, the VIP version is great too. “You blocked me on facebook, and now you’re going to get fucked up”
