ModeratorEssentially you want a controller with either a record output (that you can run through a soundcard into your cubase) or an option to select the record signal from the controller in Cubase.
Obviously any DJ software that let’s you record a stereo wav would do too. You can then just load those into Cubase.

ParticipantThanks.
So I would just need to run it through my interface as if I was recording an acoustic instrument? Wouldn’t that then be a mono signal though?
Also, are there any of these devices you would recommend?

ModeratorYou can either record a session as a stereo wav file from your DJ software, then import the file into Cubase for further editing.
Or you can take a record out (if your controller has one) and run that to the inputs of an external soundcard/interface and record that input from Cubase (stereo).
Alternatively you could split your master output (or use secondary master output – again if your controller has one) and route that back into Cubase through your soundcard/interface.Hope that helps.

ParticipantYes. That makes sense. can you recommend any devices? I’d like to keep it under $300.

ParticipantFor example:
would either of these fit the description you outlined above?

ModeratorAll very acceptable starters choices. You could add the Denon MC2000 (I am a Denon fan after all) and the Reloop Beatmix 2 and 4 (4 still comes with a full version of Serato for the time being).
One thing to notice is that all of them offer only 1 set of RCA master outputs. So either splitting the signal (or run them through your interface if it gives you direct monitoring on your outputs (to which you no doubt have your monitor speakers hooked up) or making the recording through your DJ software. Most of the models mentioned come with Serato intro (except for the beatmix 4 which still comes with the full version) and in order to be able to record I believe you need the 125 USD upgrade to the full version.

ParticipantThank you for your patience.
One other question. With any of these devices I could add some scratching over already existing tracks that my friend cuts. For example, if he has basic tracks in Cubase with a funky drum sample and an acoustic guitar, etc, I may want to add some scratching on top of those already existing tracks.
Thanks again.

ParticipantI’ve now posted this for the third time, maybe it gets through this time. This forum has some serious issues. You can also use traktor and use the midi clock.

ModeratorHi Marco,
My suggestion is to not go the road of midi-clocks. This is a highly specialized matter that really has no place on these forums. I have seen quite a few sound engineers break their teeth on proper clocking and imho it has no place in forums for (starting) DJs.
Also, the only questions asked is how to record something to (eventually) cubase. Midi-clock should not come into play.
Let’s try to stay a bit closer to the OPs question.

ParticipantI assumed the OP wanted to do something with the mix in cubase, so I thought it would be easier to use a midi clock. But yeah, it is a bit of a pain to set up, I’ll give you that. I saw an interview with Richie Hawtin and he stepped away from using midi clocks altogether. This is a guy who employs people to do the sound setup for him!

KeymasterThe whole concept of using midi clock in Cubase is not going to work as Cubase will not accept it.
Please do not post infos you know little about.
Midi Clock from Traktor does only work well with Maschine (because it is from NI) and it does somewhat work with Ableton (sketchy at best).
SO if you recommend something to a question, be 100% sure it will work the way you recommend it. -
