ParticipantHow about the Numark Mixtrak Pro II ?
It has a solid review here in DDJT, and its recommended as a budget friendly controller,
plus you already familiar with itDecember 5, 2014 at 4:04 am #2102391João Coelho
ParticipantThanks for the reply!
I’m familiar with it, yes, but I’m still wondering whether it does the same as the first one. It seems that you’re only able to select up to three effects and map your controller for those, instead of being able to browse freely and work with any effect you prefer.
Am I wrong?

ParticipantI use it with Virtual DJ and the effects are selectible. Hold the shift button and turn the desired effect knob to load a different effect in that slot.

ParticipantBut does that mean that you are limited to the effect on each slot? Seems annoying to have to load a different effect to a certain slot before being able to use it properly (as opposed to simply browsing, turning the effect on, and manipulating it).

ParticipantWhich software do you use? I’d recommend the Vestax VCI – 380. It has dedicated FX controls (albeit a little basic) but works really well with Serato Dj. Since the company seems to no longer operate, I’m sure you can find a new / used one at a great deal. It’s built like a tank and has great jog wheels

ParticipantI use VDJ.

ModeratorWarning: The Vestax website seems to have been taken off the air, meaning no more manuals, forum or driver/firmware downloads available. Especially buying used gear, this could be a problem as they usually come either without stuff or with the original stuff which has been updated since.

ParticipantSo I think it’s come down to either the DDJ-SB or the Behringer CMD Studio 4a. The DDJ-WeGo2 seems neat, but the whole thing about using the platters to control effects just seems weird. From what I’ve seen, I think both controllers I mentioned allow you to browse through the effects and use them at will, even if they only have one knob to control said effects. Plus, the DDJ-SB has a filter on it, so that’s pretty neat.
Thoughts?
Also, for those of you who use the Behringer, what’s the “FX Assign” button for?
Thanks!

ModeratorI am assuming that an FX assign button is used to assign the active FX to one or more channels?
As for the choice. I think the SB and WeGo are two different animals.
SB vs CMD Studio 4a, what to say. I am not as outspoken as my colleague Terry, but suffice to say that if you read a few posts about controller choice for starters, the SB is a standard entry in the list of good choices, the Behringer is not only not a standard entry, it’s NOT an entry, period. I think you can paint the rest of the picture yourself.Good luck with your choice (and with your DDJ-SB 😀 )

ParticipantHaha, I think that answers my question.

ParticipantSo now I read about the Denon MC2000 and the Reloop Beatmix 2 and I’m a bit lost again, since it seems like they’re all pretty similar in what they can do, build, etc. Damn.

ModeratorWith the Vestax out of the way (and only occassionally on our recommended list) because the company no longer exists, you are looking at
DDJ-SB
MC2000
Reloop BM2
add the Numark MixTrack Pro 2 …… and you pretty much have our regular (non-Traktor) line-up. Meaning all these controllers are very suitable for starter use. There are differences of course, but the best bet is to figure out what you think you want/need the most by the way of features and then check which of these has the most or the ones you WANT the most. The brand new 2015 controller buyers guide over on the blog will be of great help as always.

ParticipantWell, to be honest, I’m not that demanding. What’s crucial to me, though, is easy and quick access to various effects and their size/amount. The Mixtrack Pro had a knob for size and a knob for amount, which gave me a wider range of possibilities. I don’t see that on any of these controllers I’ve been looking at. I am quite fond of the fact that the DDJ-SB has a filter of its own, leaving more space for other effects on the fx section.
What’s annoying is that I was very much inclined toward getting the DDJ-SB, but then I found some message board where someone was asking for help in choosing between that one and the BM2, and everyone was going on and on about how the BM2 is so awesome.

ModeratorWell, frankly nobody can tell you what is the best. Simply because they are not you. All the controllers will do the job in good fashion. So no buying something “bad”.

ParticipantI have a controller question. I just bought the Vestax Typhoon and I am using it with Deckadance 2. When I got Deckadance to detect the controller everything works fine but the filter buttons on either side of the headphones buttons do not work. They do not light up or do anything to the touch. Am I missing something or is this controller not working correctly? Also whatever Mic I plug in has an echo to it. Is this normal or another sign that the controller is not working right? Any help is appreciated!
