I have the VCI 380 (which has an internal soundcard) and it’s more than plenty loud. I’ve run it directly to a pair of 12″ ZLX speakers using XLR connections and it sounded great.

I’ve never bothered to run it through my mixer (DJM 3000) and then my speakers but I’m assuming there would be minimal difference.

I think a comparable price point to the VCI 380 would be the DDJ-SR. You might want to consider waiting to see what a revamped Vestax puts out so that it’ll be supported going forward. I don’t think they’ll bother doing anything for their legacy products.

No an external sound card does not mean better output or quality.
The 380 and 400 both are powered by a power adapter which means more output and both have excellent 24bit sound cards, which are studio quality in output levels.
Same goes for other controllers like the reloop Terminal Mix 8, Numark NV,… all excellent Serato controllers that rock excellent sound output. No need to buy Pioneer for that.

Dear Terry and Aaron, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it and it’s quite useful.
I used to use vinyl for years and of course it’s a different by many aspects, but it was always because of the music primarily. So I will stop here, otherwise I’ll go into that never ending vinyl/digital debate, which I find quite ridiculous.
I am quite old school DJ, but accepting technology is part of that as well, so I actually began to use controller as soon as it came out as natural choice. I find it more comfortable to make crates apart from using CDs, which was a quick phase. On the other hand I don’t like to be a technology slave and change gear every now and then. I want stable machine which I can use for a long time…like 1210’s, which would never let me down (maybe that’s impossible but you know what I mean).
So It doesn’t have to be anything fancy for that sake, just excellent gear and VCI380 and 400 look like that. Pioneer comptrollers look nice, but I have a feeling that it’s just buying a popular brand and I don’t feel like I would buy and get anything special comparing to competitors choices. The only thing which I find a bit exciting is getting a controller which would have computer inside with displays in front, so that you don’t have to use laptop. I find it natural progression, and all the companies knew that from the early start of doing this, but for various reasons they choose not to offer it yet ( I know there are couple of models).
While I writing this, there is one more question to ask. In your experience, when playing in a club, do you honestly notice the difference between 320 MP3, FLAC or Wav files?
    Cheeers!

Nope, no difference between high quality MP3 (320 preferably but even 256 will do) as long as you know that they came from a lossless source, WAV or Flac on a club PA.

Just my opinion, so flame away guys.
