What software are you most comfortable with? I would start there and make list of what controllers work with the software you like the most and has jog wheels, then try to narrow it down to 2-3 choices. Then, if you still can’t decide, post again with the 2-3 you have narrowed it down to.

By the way, if you have a S8; then I’m guessing you are using Traktor. If you are, why not go to the S4. It’s similar enough to the S8 that you probably won’t notice too much of a difference, you get the jog wheels you want and you don’t have to change software.

If you want to switch to Serato, then your choices multiply. There’s a few posts on the forums about the Denon MC6000MK2. You may want to take closer look at it. It has 4 channel mixer, jog wheels, is still portable and has plenty of functionality. Plus it retails for around £400 – £500.

Yeah, if you’re wanting to stick with Traktor, get an S4 and move on with your day. If you’re wanting/willing to switch software, then any of the higher Pioneer models will suit you quite nicely and should work with most softwares. The higher end models such as the SX/SX2 and the SZ function as independent 2 channel mixer in case you decide to spend the money for CDJs or Turntables. Same for the RX & RZ if you want to get into rekordbox but I don’t think you will since one of their biggest selling points is Studio to club compatibility.

If you want to scratch, don’t get a controller that’s not made for Traktor and use it with Traktor. The jogs just aren’t as tight. I use a DDJ-SR with Traktor but scratching is waaay better on Serato DJ or the new Rekordbox DJ. The S4 doesn’t have these problems. I’m not saying Native Instruments broke it on purpose, but they probably did.

S4 mk II and a pair of F1s and BOOM – you have pretty much everything you had on the S8 minus the screens. Easy breezy! 🙂
