Mixed In Key does an energy analysis. As does some of the DJ Software. Depending on what it is they actually measure, it is more or less useful. Nothing like your own ears though.

Personally I don’t trust the energy analysis except for my (large) request collection. For my core collection I rate everything myself.

At the risk of sounding old and cranky…

You rate the energy of your tracks by listening to them! You should be able to tell in 10 seconds of listening if a track is going to rev people up or not. This is THE most fundamental skill of being a dj – more so than mixing or anything else you see on these sites – KNOWING YOUR MUSIC.

Okay, no risk there, I definitely sounded old and cranky. But seriously… Yish.

As a Mixed in Key user, I personally do not find the energy level thing to be at all accurate or useful to me. I haven’t bothered to actually try to crack the algorithm, but it sure as heck doesn’t agree with my ear.

I totally agree with Todd, although I had to edit his post a little 😉

Todd is correct.. just listen to a snippet of the meat of the song, it should be obvious.
