Do not DJ non profit -> get cash -> new laptop

DJing if done right pays in very short term for equipment.

There is where an issue may lie. I live in a small town and we really only have 1 sports bar, and I know no one here (also, my underground EDM isn’t well known in this area). Also, just in my area alone there are at least 10 wedding DJ services already. I don’t really know if I COULD DJ for profit where I live.

I might have a chance at getting a used Toshiba Satellite series with 4 GB and a pretty good size hard drive (500GB). My friend might be getting a new PC for christmas, and I offered to buy her old one. We’ll see though.

Also, I am the OP but for some reason I can’t log into that account anymore. Had to create a second one.

Toshiba satelites is ok-ish for errr 2 years maybe? before everything start to acting out (personal experiences of mine)
    – the batteries start not lasting long than it used to be
    – the heat is the no.1 problem, if its gets too hot, it will just magically shut down on its own,
    – those 500 gb ? wont last long
    – the USB ports is the biggest fail in the satellite series

It should do the trick running Virtual DJ, and you can upgraded it from XP to windows 7 if u like
I ran my Serato ITCH, with VCI 300 with a few gigs in it, until the shut-down gets out of control (it just shut down in the middle of my gig), went and bought the MBP

I don’t agree with you on the amount of HD space, Rizki. Unless you produce (in which case external (preferably networked = NAS) storage is in order), I’d say that even a 256GB HD (or better an SSD) should be plenty. All you want on it is your DJ software and your core collection after all. And we recommend keeping your core collection down to a few thousand tracks tops.

Other than that, yes, Toshiba has lost it’s original (business laptop) shine years ago. The only business laptop I ever had serious problems with was my wife’s Satellite. Mouse button breaking, case shabby, battery issues and such.

HD space is no issue. I would like to go into production eventually, but for that I plan to use my Gateway One all in one(500GB) with a 1 TB external HD.

I would simply just rather not take the all in one for anything. 23 inches is far to large for a basic setup, and she really hasn’t had any issues with it. maybe she got a good one or something. I dunno.

Though, I have also been told in the past that my Compaq Presario laptop would only last 3 years at the most, and it still runs 9 years later.
