ParticipantCD Decks and controllers are not synonymous. Most CDJs (CD Decks) will not match the beats for you.
On the other hand, most controllers have a SYNC button which can match the BPMs ( and even phase too) of two tracks, but you do not have to utilized this feature.

KeymasterHi Sam and welcome to the forums!
As Vinny already said, most CDJs will not beatmatch for you and though most digital controllers do have a sync button, there is a very good video of DJ Iceman around here somewhere, where he shows that sync is not everything 🙂
It does not depend on the tool you use, it is the music and your genuine passion and love for it, that make a good DJ.August 1, 2012 at 6:37 am #1009046sam cameron
MemberThank you both for your answers… it just goes to show that I have a lot to learn as I haven’t got a clue about the equipment!! So If I was looking to get into club DJ’ing, would you recommend CDJ’s or vinyl? Or both?! My friend also suggested the ION discover DJ computer system –
But I really don’t know!!
Any more helpful advice??

KeymasterIt does not matter what you use in clubs.
Most clubs here (europe) do no longer have turntables, they have CDJs and a mixer, but you can hook up a MIDI controller and your laptop also.
I am not a fan of the ION system and I would not use it to play a gig.
My advise would be: Get a low budget midi controller and you possibly have a laptop already. Subscribe to our course “how to digital DJ fast” that can be found here: http://djtips.co/fast-info/
First make up your mind what software you want to use, then choose a controller.
Our free controller guide can help you there:
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/12/dj-midi-controllers-buyers-guide-2012/There is a new low budget controller that is not in the guide the Reloop Beatmix, which is very nice if you chose to go for Virtual DJ. Many others chose the Mixtrack Pro from Numark, which kind of is the “most bang for the buck” low priced controller. (And you can easily play your first gig with this equipment)
You can learn anything you need to know on such a controller and the software. If you then want to go for CDJs you will have no problem at all and you can even switch over to a DVS (digital vinyl system) very easy. So this should give you a nice start.

Solid advice. You should put this as a sticky note on the home page for all the newbies who are asking the same question and save yourself some time Terry! 🙂
