MemberI went from traktor s4 to cdjs. I find it way more fun.
I got “too caught up in the medium” to actually dj when i used traktor.
It takes a while to get a cd wallet going and annoying when you need to reburn, I just have each cd saved in a folder and when i need to reburn i just drop it into a playlist in itunes and bam its done.
This week I’m adding key and bpm to the slips as well as hi hat pattern. Its like a portfolio to me. I love it.
CDJ’s are great. If I were you I’d look into the denon s3700. They look great and you can get two for the price of one cdj-2000. They have usb too.

MemberYup.
But considering that a Kontrol S4 offers endless live remixing possibilities, 4 sample decks, many more effects than a DJM-2000, quantizes / syncs everything if you want, this becomes an awesome tool for live performances, at a fraction of the price that CDJs and DJM would cost.
It depends on your style, but I think buying CDJs just to be club-ready is a bit of an overkill. At that point, a DDJ-T1 would offer roughly the same layout and buttons, and cost half the price of a single CDJ-2000. So that leaves extra money for good speakers, a sub, better headphones, etc.
Also, if you are a mobile DJ, a controller is the best option for portability.
But anyways, if you have the budget, go for the CDJs, they are good products. But there are also very good alternatives on the controller market!

MemberI think beginners mainly go for cdjs just for image… It looks like your a dj but doesnt actually make you one…

I don’t agree with this. CDJ’s are very expensive for a beginner DJ, not only that but they are much harder to DJ on if you’re just starting out. They don’t have the sync button, you can’t see the waveforms on top of eachother, it’s harder to select music (requiring pre burned CD’s), and theres no sync button.
I would think that most beginner DJ’s who’ve done their research would go for a controller + computer combo.

MemberI would say that starting with CDJs would make you a better DJ in the long run. No waveforms, no Sync – people learn the old fashioned way, so when they get to digital they’re better DJs….
(I speak from experience – I had CDJ100s back in the day before digital was all over the market… )

Thats exactly what I mean, the djs that go for cdjs these days starting out seem to do it for image rather then ease of use of functionality or transportability….

MemberYou had no choice when i was nipper, it was a belt driven Gerrad turntable with a beautiful polished wood case that weighed the same as a small village, or nowt.
Must have been the early 90’s when i got up close and personal with Technics 1200 and that’s only because a guy in our internal sales department at work scrimped and saved for ’em… 😉April 2, 2013 at 9:42 am #38654Indian Cosmic

MemberCan’t believe someone hasn’t recommended it yet (or maybe Im half asleep) but what about the Pioneer DDJ-SX?
To me it is the closest digital setup up to 2 CDJ’s and a Mixer, and is cheaper, looks good, and also works as a standalone mixer?
If I suddenly got a lot of money in my pocket I would get this. If you use it like CDJ’s and mixer, then you will be prepared for a club situation only having to take a couple of memory sticks.
