Nice to know I’m not alone. As a person who used to hate dance music in general it eventually took me over completely. I thought I was happy but then I dabbled in DJing and now it’s all I think about as well. It’s all I want to do, the first time live is enough to hook you forever. Now after looking at production for a while I’m actually taking it seriously and learning all I can. Never look back.

I really do feel the same!
I spend a lot of time doing and thinking about DJ related things. The first thing I talk about in the morning when I meet my friends is always a new beast track, some cool gear or something along those lines.

It’s only when you are obsessed with something, you will succeed. It’s absolutely fine!

You got it bad and since I am in this quite a long time:
    IT WONT GET ANY BETTER.
So live with it, people will start to accept you as a DJ 😉

I was exactly the same, “if it isn’t played live on instruments, and there is no singing, it’s not music”.
    So much has changed

I’m so glad i’m not the only one as well! I suppose as Kimozaki said, it’s the only way to succeed in anything so it must be a good thing 🙂

    So I’m not alone!

I came from a heavy metal background, all forms of smiling and dance music was my arch enemy. Times really change.

Same, except I moved onto darker house and techno. Still gotta keep it real right? No fluff for us heads!

Yes, and it is horrible. I just landed a new job and everyday I work I’m just sitting there thinking ”Damn, this is such a waste of my time…….I still have to finish the bassline on song x, get about 20 more songs in genre y, etc. It’s not a desk job so I can’t integrate dj work with normal work……. it’s to the point where I’d rather make just enough for rent/util w/ craigslist odd jobs and work on djing all day.

lmaooo….guilty! I’m the same. Actually at work right now writing this. On my way in (take the transit) Im on this forum or reading articles. I take frequent breaks at work researching stuff or reading about production techniques. As soon as I get home I’m on my decks. My room mate complains that I always have music on everyday but I dont care lol…I spend about 4-5 hours a night doing something music related..I always right random music related ideas that come to my head on my iphone so I never forget anything

It has totally consumed my live like nothing else before lol I thought it was cause I naturally have an addicting personality but as long as everyone else is the same way! lmaoo

lmfaooo I think like that everyday. As long as I can pay my rent and eat thats all I need. I have a desk job which in hindsight is a pretty good job but im always looking for reasons to push me over the edge so I can find a part time job lol. Then reality slaps me in the face.

I wanted to take a break for the month of January. Listening to jazz, playing the guitar… But here I am, listening to bangers and preparing playlists in my head, and staring at my controller with desire… haha

So I’ve offered my local bar (like the one I’ve got all my friends in…) to DJ every Thursday, and they said yes.

So basically yeah it’s addictive 🙂

p.s.: I do advice taking a break to put things in perspective, helped me a lot reshaping my aspirations as a DJ. I’ve decided to play where I wanted to play rather than where I could eventually be needed…and understood that you can’t make artistic compromises for money…
