In the price range and quality class of the EVs you cannot go wrong. The EVs are really well defined even if you want to have a jazz band play through them and still can hold up to the punch of hard hitting Industrial.
In that price range the hardest competition is prolly the nearly same looking line of HK audios. But the difference mostly comes up to personal preference.
A relatively new player on the market is Line6 with their “digital speaker system”. It looks good in theory, however I had no chance to test those yet, so I would not recommend them at this time. But if you can get to test them, maybe they suit you.

Since Squinty has already asked I too have a same question… my budget is low… very low… as low as Earthworms Living room :p

    8” 600 Watt Powered Two-Way PA Speaker with MP3/USB/3.5mm Input PPHP803MUPyle Audio$300
    10” 600 Watt Powered Two-Way PA Speaker with MP3/USB/3.5mm Input PPHP103MUPyle Audio$370

These are the two options for me… My requirement is to start small parties for 25 – 50 ….
most of these parties will be in some friends house(outdoor) or max inside a hall which can accommodate 30 – 50 people

PS: do I really need a SUB?? cant I work with just 2 PA Speakers of say 8″ or 10″ or 12″

thanks for the advice terry ill start loooking around at my locals to see if i can find the line6’s to have a listen to them =D.

and jiggie through all the forums i have posted i have been told not to worry about the sub with the gigs i will be doing which is around 50-100 people. mine are just house parties like yours and what not but most of the ones i have been asked to do have around that number. only problem is i have the decks and mixer but no speakers.

i personally would say it depends on maybe what you are playing and what you want it to sound like.

hence i am a dubstep dj and i love my bass so i realy want to emphasize that in my mix. but on the other hand dubstep also has alot of high ended glitchs and what not. so in my case i feel its a fine line between to much bass drowning out the high end and not enough bass for that awesome sound of the two being just right and working together.

also in a hall i have been told to have a sub. but i guess it depends on the size and how many poeple there are. the more people there are the more the sound will be obsored by there bodys.

i recon test it out do a few gigs just with the two speakers which ever you choose 10s or 8s and if your not happy with it try adding a sub. i think its all about building. start from the bottom and build up. dont buy or add something you think you might need but arent sure on. test the waters then determined if you need it or not. if you get what i am saying.

anyways bud i am just a nooby my self but this is just what i have been told and what i have read.

just read everything you can in all the forums sites you got and post all the questions you need if you cant find the answers. its the only way to learn and theres always someone that is willing to help. like terry =D

anyways bud i hope i kinda cleared a lil fog. =D

Great squinty if you get to listen to the line6 please post your experience. Else like I said you cannot go wrong with the EVs and I have played up to 200 peeps with a similar setup. If you put the speaker high enough on the rig it will carry a long way over the people. Even when some other speakers with same wattage will no longer deliver, they will still carry.
