if you get hit with import tax and vat (which you probably will) customs love a big box its not going to be that much cheaper.

Nope, +1 on the tax/vat thing (or -/- 1 really 😀 ).

Also depending on the brand there good be some power issues (although most power adapters are generic these days and some controllers are usb-powered, so adapters don’t enter into the equation then) or problems with warranty. Local distributors might not want to accept your warranty repair, but tell you to ship it back to your dealer for repair, which would be a right pain in the rear end of course.
