If you have a laptop (laptop stand) and a controller your next purchase needs to be a pair of headphones!
Depending on what controller you have, you may or may not need to buy a sound card to use in conjunction with the headphones.

The case you are reffering to is a “flight case” and there are usually a few versions out for each controller made by manufacturers such as Odyssey, Marathon, and Road ready, but that isn’t really neccessary at this point. Also the stand you mentioned isn’t really required unless you have no other surface/work area to practice on.

If you give some more details such as what controller and software you use we can give you some more insight.

    Regards,

well i have traktor kontrol s4, i have denon hp 1000, i use traktor scratch pro 2, i have a laptop and a laptop stand, and i dont really have where to practice… The other thing is that i live in venezuela and there are no dubstep/dnb events here but is getting more and more popular and ive been playing in a friends house and is getting popular and theres more and more people coming but is getting to be a problem because i have to put my stuff in a table that has access to the people and they are always walking around and touching with curiousity, one guy even moved the jog wheel while i was getting a drink real quick so i need something like a stand or a case to put my stuff away from them.. IM afraid one idiot will spill his drink on my equipment or fall on top of it

Here is a case that I highly reccomend. You may want to look into either a portable table (more stable) or one of the cross stands you mentioned before but I think they are typically for larger/heavier coffins for dual turntable/cdj and mixer setups. Cases for the s4 may or may not be wide enough to use with the cross style stand.

This may be stating the obvious but Ill take a shot. One thing I think many DJ’s will forget is business cards. You get so caught up in making sure your mixes are tight, and your playlists are perfect that you forget how to properly pitch the venue at which your trying to spin at. In my opinion, I think trying to get a DJ gig without having a business card is like trying to get a normal job without handing in your resume. Sure, you may have more experience then your competition, but by using a card, management will consider you more professionally, as well as have all of your contact information to follow up with you if they are in fact interested.

    Cheers from Boston

I think you should stop thinking “stuff” is what’s going to make you a “serious DJ”.

You should buy things because you NEED THEM…not because you think not having them won’t make you a “serious DJ”. Get a flight case (that one posted looks nice) because you want to make your life easier when you go to gigs. So you can toss it in your trunk and go to town. However, think about WHERE you’ll end up. You don’t want a big, bulky case when you have to squeeze into a tiny booth in a bar.

I agree headphones are essential. Look around the site and Phil has posted reviews of many pairs. Those new Pioneers look sweet.

Definitely think less on “gear” now and think more on “marketing”. Business cards and a website would be good moves. That and start making a place for yourself in social media. Post mixes online.

As for the worry about people…that’s life unfortunately.

youre absolutely right… i do need the stuff though… as i already told you, space is not a problem but i do wonder what will i do when space becomes an issue, because the controller is already pretty big and i cannot perform as well in cdjs and i definitely cant afford to buy a pair to practice…
