I happen to have 2 Macbook one white 2009 and one pro 15″ also 2009 model bouth of them run traktor pro 2 no problem.
The white has a 2 GHz Core 2 duo 4 GB ram and Pro has 2.4 GHz Core 2 duo 8 GB ram bought them used ( try to get one from a female they tend to care more for their computers 🙂 )
As long as it’s Core 2 duo and 2 GB ram it should be ok for Traktor but if posible try to get at least 4 GB ram.
I run Ableton live on my 2010 iMac 27″ 3.06 GHz Core 2 duo with 6 GB ram no problem and it also ran fine when I only had 4 GB ram.
You might want to consider a 15″ pro for the extra screen size if you like to use remix decks or even just 4 deck mixing. It will work fine one a 13″ but will be a bit cramped.

if you plan on running traktor or ableton, i’d personally upgrade my ram to its maximum, I had problems running logic until I did this, but I only had 2gb. http://www.ebuyer.com/393027-crucial-8gb-ddr3-1066mt-s-laptop-memory-for-mac-ct2c4g3s1067mceu ebuyer is a good option, and remember the price of RAM ect. rises and falls regularly the link I’ve just posted you I purchased myself, on a good day and got it for just £40, but at one point I did see it for around as little as £30. No reason not to upgrade your ram, however I will say I don’t think macbook pros older than 2009 are upgradeable, I might be wrong. 2010 onwards is what I personally would go for as from a friend of mine who works in computing always told me that they are the most reliable.

    Hope this helps 🙂

So far the ones in my price range are 2007-2008 models. Most are 2gb of ram but say max supported is 4gb. Should be ok, I hope. What about OS? I don’t have a clue. Which should I be looking for. What’s the best OS? As far as screen size, most are 13″ and some 15″ widescreen which I’d prefer. I was planning on hooking up a a monitor anyway…. Here’s a link to one that I was looking at…..

to use with Traktor Pro 2.6.1 you need Mac OS X 10.7 or 10.8 so the one you linked you should upgrate the OS and upgrade to 4 GB ram would also be recomanded.

Good to know…. Thanks. Also, sounds like a dumb question but do these older macs have the apple that lights up in the front of the case?

I think only the Macbook Pros light up on the front

One of my macs is a 09 MacBook. When I had 2GB RAM, Traktor would skip when I would use my controller. When I upgraded to 4GB, no problem. Make sure that it allows AT LEAST 4GB RAM. And its not a Pro, but DOES have the apple light!

Most are 2gb of ram. I will definitely look into an upgrade to 4gb before purchasing… thanks for all the info!!

You can upgrade the RAM yourself. $100 from the Apple store, prolly less elsewhere. Just need a little glasses screwdriver to take the back of the laptop off.

IMHO from a pure hardware standpoint, why pay for a used Intel Core 2 Duo when you could get an i3 or i5 for the same price with faster ram to boot?
