I did not find that mapping a controller really is anything I want to do, but something I had to do and it was a major pain for me (especially in Traktor).
If you are using the Mixtrack Pro I would download Serato and work with it. Much better EQing than VDJ LE. Yes it lacks some looping functions and the sampler is not as nice, but basics work better in my opinion.
If you want to go Traktor with an S2 I would not buy a Traktor license now, as the S2 comes with a full Trkator Pro License and then you have spent money on something you will get anyways.

I probably won’t be able to buy the S2 for a couple years, do you think there will be better alternatives for traktor by then?

Predicting the future is hard, but by the speed that new controllers hit the market I would suspect very cool controllers by then.

IMO, I’d save up $500 and buy the S2 as it comes with Traktor. It took me a year of saving up also, but I got comfortable with DJing and made for sure it’s something that I wanted to do. Also, although it shouldn’t be a shame to use the mixtrack at a club/house party(which I’ve used before) I just wouldn’t take it with me.

In a couple years, the S2 will be $200. Check out the Traktor Bible website. I’m sure there a several mapping options you can download for a popular controller like you have. You can buy the license or get an Audio 2 basically for free if you go that rout as it comes with a license.
