MemberJust successfully won a eBay bid for a Numark mixtrack and DJIO soundcard for only AU$235 so I’m really happy. Can’t wait to pick it up and try it out…from the research I did mixtrack definitely looked like the best beginner controller

Wow that’s really cheap. Have fun with your purchase! It’s a good buy!

Exactly, and you’ve always got a unit to take to parties where you don’t want to risk your “good” gear once you’ve got something more “pro”.

ParticipantFor me, the Behringer bcd3000 is good kit. Sure i think there better controllers out there, but this fits nice with my workstation and when I out grow it I will head to the s4.

I think for the price point the BCD3000 is pretty good, especially for a controller with a built-in sound card, as long as you don’t mind the small jogs and plasticky feel to it.

KeymasterThe Behringer was good in its day, but jogs on modern budget controllers are in another league.

MemberTrue. From what I’ve seen though, to get a budget controller with decent jogs and a built-in sound card you’re paying a fair bit more than the BCD is going for these days. From what I can tell, the best budget controller with both is the Mixtrack Pro.

Totally agree with the jogs, they are too, erm, ‘sticky?

MemberNot had any major problems with the jogs on mine apart from the size, as long as you only want to use them for pitch bending.

Participanti started with a hurcules mp3 and i hated it so i lft the controller thing alone for a few years.i decided to try again so i go a vestax typhoon, and then in the same week got a mixtrack pro as a gift.so i got lucky. i use the vestax as my main unit and the mixtrack as my backup. ive always used virtual dj so its a win/win for me

MemberAs someone who has been looking at controllers over the last couple months(while practicing mixing on my desktop/keyboard/mouse “pro” set up) I had originally planned on purchasing a Mixtrack Pro or Vestax Typhoon and then upgrading down the line to a S4, NS6/7, or even a DXone. However instead of making 2 purchases within a few months of one another costing me over 1k I have instead been looking at a new option, the Novation Twitch.
The twitch seems like the perfect tool for a beginner and intermediate digital DJ who enjoys mixing music that doesn’t involve scratching but does involve heavy remixes/samples. The best part about it is it seems I won’t need to upgrade to a more “professional” controller after purchasing it. The only upgrade I would be looking at if I purchased a Twitch to start out with would be to a “pure” DJ set up down the line with CDJs or TTs, and I would always have a controller portable enough to use anywhere and professional looking enough to not feel like I’m playing on a toy in a small club.
I love Phil’s review of the unit on this site, but don’t see it mentioned often in threads when considering equipment.

ParticipantI used to have a Behringer BCD2000 which was their first controller.
Wasn’t really that bad considering how much it was. But you really get what you pay for.
Used it for less than a year, because I really missed the feel of vinyl so I upgraded to a DVS system.I suggest you look into the Xponent or the Reloop controllers. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about these units.
So far the best controllers i’ve tried are the NS6, NS7 and the S4. A bit on the heavy side though, but they’re stable
and perform really well.August 9, 2011 at 12:37 am #5451sinewave333
MemberI have been using a Numark Control (total control/stealth control) with an external soundcard for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed it. The play/cue buttons are the membrane type and are wearing out though. The jogs are too small to scratch with but it has a great selection of knobs and is a great size.
The Reloop Mixage series has caught my eye, but I may try to repair my current unit since my gigs are only paying about $100/week now
